They are leaders. They play defense. They do subtle little things on the court that make the team better. They make big and small contributions to overall team success and great team play.
Kirk’s dad is a coach. Kirk soaked in all of that knowledge growing up. It is like playing another coach on the floor. He sees the entire court. His fundamentals are very sound. He has a great shot. He is a great teammate. He is also tough as nails. He is a very good guy and will be very active in our community.
The trade we made this off season was a very good one.
I believe it has helped us dramatically on the court and in the locker room.
It is ironic how the buzz has changed regarding this trade, isn’t it?
When we made the trade - our first in the new ownership - I was absolutely flamed via email. Some of the bloggers went crazy media were skeptical.
Our GM and coach were united in their belief that Kirk was the kind of player we needed to add to the mix. I agree with them 110 percent.
Hershey. Perfection. A great partnership. A great run.
Read this kick-off-the-season article about the Hershey Bears. We are grateful for this strong relationship.
The Hershey Bears. Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Rebuilding around youth.

Here is a good piece on cap space in the NHL and where we stand as a team.
I am proud of the way we have managed our cap space.
They all talk so I don’t have to anymore. Thank you.
Here is a long set of articles on the Washington Capitals from our hometown digital content factory, the Washington Post.
I look forward to the season. I hope we achieve more than we did last season. I hope we have good fortune and we remain healthy. I hope to see you all on Saturday night. Let us build America’s Hockey Capital together. Thank you.
Some interesting results released on NBA.com following a survey of general managers, and here are the Wizards highlights:
* 67.9% of general managers selected John Wall as the favorite to win rookie-of-the-year honors
* When considering this year’s rookie class, the same percentage of GMs also thought John Wall would be the best of that group in five years
* When GMs were asked to consider rookie athleticism, 64.3% selected John Wall as the top choice
* General managers pegged the Heat as the most improved team, but the Wizards and Knicks were tied for second on that list

I am not hinting at anything.
I have remained consistent.
Our fans asked us for 101 things to do. Look at the list. Look at how much work we have done for our fans. Look at how much input we have been given. We are so grateful!
We have been driving through all of the items on the checklist.
I believe it marginalizes the voice of the fans to write a headline such as this one. It is what I would call “sensationalism.” Why would I hint? I don’t need to and I can’t believe this is the news that was generated from my blog post.
As I noted and have said time and time again, it takes more than two years to do a name change and that is after you agree on a look and feel. We haven’t spent any time on this matter as we had 101 things to do NOW! We have ONLY focused – as promised – on what we can control and deliver. Why the discussion needs to focus on this issue when we have worked so hard to deliver on REAL TIME deliverables is unfair to the hard work delivered by our associates at Monumental Sports and Entertainment.
Because so many people are asking, it is “under consideration.” But read the document. See what is done or in progress. That is what you should be focused on. That is tangible and real and of value. We are listening. I thought this article was ill advised and takes the eye off the ball.
This is what we are doing.
I believe in our plan.
I have been honest and up front and transparent.
I know some folks really believe in the plan to date and are quite happy and it is a major reason we sell out every game. I also know some folks absolutely hate us and don’t believe in the plan. And in management and ownership and our players. That all comes with the territory.
But give credit where credit is due. We have been open and we have been consistent and we have been forthright in what we are doing under the rules. We are hopeful that we still have upside. And we have been busy on your behalf to make our off ice activities world class as well. See the 101 things to deliver list of yesterday.
Drop the puck. So no more talk about what might be and plans. Let us just do the talking on the ice. I know our players are excited and psyched to make you proud.
Thanks for the support everyone. See you on Saturday night at Verizon Center. Or not.
Thank you. Positive vibes go back your way, too. Most appreciated.
