And I Have Been Put Through the Test!

Please watch this nice video from Chris Wallace’s show of yesterday.

Wow - my email is flooded with folks from our community showing support of our teams. Thank you.

I am also receiving resumes; charitable requests; screenplays; pleas for help and money and gifts from all over the country.

As I do read and respond to all of my email, it will take some time to plow through it all. To date, more than 450 sincere and long emails. I don’t outsource any of this work. I do it all myself.

When you read the subjects - this are not something to joke about. Dan - one day come into my office and read these emails beside me. See what the real world is thinking. It will open your eyes to things other than sports.

John Chambers and Me

It is a small world to be mentioned in the same breath here as the great John Chambers, longtime CEO of Cisco. Read this and laugh.

Not many people will know this odd fact but John and I once worked together back in the 70′s at a company called Wang Laboratories. I started in the call center answering technical requests from customers and John was a sales executive selling word processing systems. It was my first job out of college. Two Wang Labs alumni make good!

What Do You Think About This Film Clip?

In a way I understand the action.

A major news issue is being discussed and it gets trivialized about personal issues and questions.

On the other hand, if you can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen, I guess.

So what do you think?

I also think of WikiLeaks.com as a next generation competitor to CNN. That complicates the issue at hand. Imagine if Assange turned the tables and was asking personal personnel issues about CNN’s recent management shake-up during the interview?

This is a tough one. Curious as to your thoughts.

A Global Game

I am happy we are scouting and talking risks with drafting and developing players from outside the US.

Basketball is a global game. Some of the best players and most important players in the NBA have NOT been home grown.

International players develop differently. Their fundamentals at times are better than their US counterparts. They sometimes play in tougher leagues and they develop different skills.

Kevin Seraphin has great foot work. He is quite nimble. I believe because he played so much soccer as a young child.

And then he grew and grew and grew.

And he loves this cosmopolitan city.

The NBA is a global iconic brand.

Kids everywhere grow up wanting to play in the NBA.

Kevin will love DC and our fans will love and welcome Kevin.

We have many players on the Caps that speak French and can help Kevin, too!

John Wall came to the Caps game last night and our fans welcomed him. He will come back to a game on November 3rd. I think it is important for all of our young players to love playing in DC and to meet their counterparts on each team.

We live in a great community. It is sophisticated. It is welcoming. It is a melting pot.

I will also get Kevin a Rosetta Stone software package - as I am on their board of directors - to help him learn to speak English!

Better and More

I feel a little bit better today. We overcame a lot of adversity last night to win in OT and garner two points. That was a character win. We worked hard and we played hard.

We played a very hungry and talented team. It is so interesting to see a team that has a bunch of young hungry players and some gritty role players that lost their big money super star player now be a tough team to play against. They have taken 3 of 4 points against us in the two games played. Atlanta is a very good team. A well balanced “team”! Period.

We started to play hard and with a bit of a mean streak. We kept coming. We finally started to put shots on net. We overcame a bit shot differential and ended with a lot more shots on net.

We didn’t get frazzled when we had a goal overruled. We didn’t wilt when we lost a lead in regulation with less than a minute to play. We didn’t get filled with angst when we let a power play goal in the last minute of a period take our momentum. We didn’t let injuries on our blue line get in the way of a win.

We played some new players with jump who desperately want to play in the NHL who showed hunger and who helped us a lot last night. Thank you number 85. Welcome back.

Alex Semin - congratulations on a hat trick. Our young goaltender - superb. Michael, as noted in the hallway, thank you and I am proud of you. A great OT front of the net goal by Tomas.

Take the two points.

Rest up. Heal up.

Onward to Carolina on Wednesday.

Thank you. Go Caps!

David Archuleta Performed For All on Saturday

At the EKS Challenge.

He is a very nice young man; a great talent; and very supportive of Best Buddies and The Special Olympics. Click here for info.

Thanks to all for being so supportive. Thanks to Mayor Fenty for participating in the bike race and for helping us throughout the weekend. It was great to see Carl Lewis again!

Thanks to Mike Knuble and his wife for joining us, too, on Friday night with VP Biden and Dr. Biden.

I walked in the 3k with my Best Buddy Big Ken Holden. It was a perfect Autumn Day in DC.

Thanks to Rosetta Stone and CEO Tom Adams, too, for being so supportive of the cause.

And Jack Davies and Neil Cohen completed the 100 k race in less than 5 hours.

Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden

They were so kind to host us all at their home last night. Joe Biden is a class act! He gave a moving speech about the Shriver Family and Eunice Shriver, comparing her work for people with disabilities with Martin Luther King’s work for civil rights.

The Shriver family held a party to celebrate today’s EKS Challenge. Jack Davies and Neil Cohen – two great friends and partners in Monumental Sports - attended and will be in the 100 kilometer bike race today, too. Thank you.

I will be there at 7:30 am to host the volunteers and the participants. I am writing this blog post at 5:45 am this morning!

My Best Buddy, Ken Holden; his sister Kendra; and his family will all be here today and will also attend the Caps game tonight with us. See this article for info on Ken Holden and our friendship. Today will be a great day. Do something to help somebody! Get out and race and have some fun.
