Big Trade

Scott Hannan for Tomas Fleischmann.

A tough and battled tested D man comes our way.

A young and talented forward goes to Colorado.

Both players are in the last year of their respective contracts.

I think this trade helps both teams.

I am happy with the trade–although I will  miss Tomas–who blossomed into a regular 20 goal scorer under our coach’s tutelage.

I think adding to our D corp was the right move at this time for our club. Go Caps.

Coach on Line Dancing

Our coach did a great job getting the team over its small slump– as we have picked up 6 of 6 points in the last week.

Here is a good piece by Mike Vogel on how a coach and his staff matter.

Read this one if you can; thank you.

A good day of practice today; then we head to a back to back road trip. We haven’t had much success in St Louis; so I expect  a very tough game on Wednesday night. Go Caps.

Brandon Flowers at 930 Club

I went to this show last night with Seth Hurwitz; owner of the 930 club.

We had the opportunity to meet with Brandon Flowers before his show– he is an amazingly talented young man; a great song writer–a strong vocalist and has a very unique stage presence.

His band the “Killers” are fantastic;and Brandon is now embarking on a tour to promote his solo album. I met Brandon  for a moment  at the Live8 show in London a few years back as AOL was the producer of the show. The band’s performance  was one of the highlights of the show for me and my family. They combined a gospel; country–rock and  alt vibe–all rolled into one band. Continue reading

Little Consolation In A Loss

Against a team that has three real stars–and a lot of expectations heaped upon it. It is almost as if the media is upset at the  Heat  for NOT living up to the hype that the media itself created . Read this article — what disdain.

As noted, free agency is not a panacea. You cant win titles in the off season with press releases.  Drafting and developing a core is the way to go–  there is no easy and fast way to win and then compete and win  a title. Chemistry matters;and it takes a long time to gel as a team.  But we cant worry about other teams–we have our own rebuild to worry about. And our own tough love and our own mistakes to fix to focus upon. Continue reading

We Can’t Be As Perfect As You

We shall try. But perfection is fleeting.

I shut down my blog  for the long weekend; I wanted to spend quality  time on vacation with my family.  Which I did–we went to the beach for 4 days; I feel tanned and rested and I caught up on sleep and had the opportunity to do quality  work outs on the treadmill.

I had a set back during the vacation in that a dear long term friend passed away; that event led to lots of deep emotional discussions within our family  about perspective and about the quality of life. And about what is important.

I was also able to watch our games on Slingbox–and was so happy to see us win on Wednesday night 3 to 2. That was a good road win. Go Caps. Continue reading
