I know. I hear you.
We blew a lead last night that we shouldn’t have and we let our goaltender down.
We are tied for first place in the Eastern Conference in terms of points.
We let in 3 goals in a 7 minute span mostly because we went into cruise control after gaining a two goal lead and that Toronto is a tough team to play against with talent and grit. The NHL is filled with terrific teams and tons of talent. We must always be respectful and mindful of that fact.
We are second in the NHL for positive goals differential.
Some fans booed. I “get it.” You were disappointed.
We won in the shootout.
We are 5 and 1 at home this season, second best in NHL.
I received an email this morning that says, “You are worst team in the NHL right now.”
We are tied for most points in NHL right now.
Yin and yang.
We are the worst best team or best worst team in NHL right now. I agree.
I hear you.
We know.
So if the Caps are “worst team in NHL right now,” who, would that person consider, are the elite teams? They should be ashamed. Pay them no mind, Ted. Let’s go Caps!
Teddy, For me, last nights game had every emotion. Fear, anticipation, panic, and shear joy! The outcome perfect. What more can you receive or what more can you give? I don’t want the team to be the same as last year. I want our team to learn “along the way” when the chips are down and they dig deep, they come up with sweet victories. You don’t learn that in practice, you learn that game to game. Easy wins don’t develop teams. WAY TO GO CAPS!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Leonsis; You have built a winning franchise, and brought it back from shambles. We as a “sports family” appreciate the fact you listen so well. To all of our pissing and moaning; complaints, suggestions and concerns. Teams win, teams lose this will never change. Stay the course, and stay happy! You can never please everyone.
Thank you for all that you do.
Go CAPS!
That the Caps lost the lead is concerning,
But less so since it’s two points they’re earning.
There are teams who would gladly
Be playing this “badly”,
So it’s not like we’re crashing and burning.
I think this is a slightly different team than last year. We have some rookies and some injuries. Semin is showing what a world-class talent he can be when he’s motivated. The PK tweaks are important and will take some time to become fully effective. Toronto is a solid team, the Caps pulled out the win. I think the Caps will have many ups and downs this season – and I’m fine with that. I think everything the Caps are doing is working towards the ultimate goal of THE CUP – keep it up!
Anne Marie — Don’t sell us short… we’re 8-4
Rock the Red – RtR
Ted, I recommend you STOP listening to those who boo, whine and complain because the team is “only” 7-4. I’m tired of listening to it and it’s only November. Despite a letdown in last night’s game (Toronto’s no slouch), THEY FOUND A WAY TO WIN, PEOPLE!!! Good grief.
Geesh Mr Leonsis, whomever sends you those stupid “you are worst team” emails needs to find another sport to be a fan of. I’ve only been following hockey now for about three years and there are a few things I’ve learned: hockey is a really hard game; the difference between teams is rather minimal (parity); that small vulcanized rubber thing called a puck can move quite unpredictably on ice or in air when smacked with a stick. There are going to be games like the one last night, some of which you will win, some you will not.
I find it quite amazing what hockey players can do. And your Caps team is comprised of a very good compliment of players, coaches, and you as owner. Best wishes to you and the team. I’ll be rooting for you to go all the way and raise the Cup, this year and hopefully a few more in the years to come.
Well said. I live in Massachusetts, so I wss fortunate to watch last night’s game on the NHL network. I went to bed after the second period and was surprised to wake up to find that the 2 goal lead was negated and had to be sent to overtime. However, the Caps did win the game to advance to 8-4. With a little bit of math, it looks like the Caps are on pace for just under 55 wins. The Caps had a franchise record 54 last year. That sounds pretty good to me. Keep up the good work!
Roller coasters are my favorite ride; they go fast, climb to crazy heights, fly down steep hills, take wild turns and sometimes they even flip you upside down. Watching the Caps is a lot like being on a roller coaster and last nights game was one that left me feeling EXACTLY like I’d just gotten off one!!!
People please give it a rest! Enjoy the games, enjoy the victories, enjoy the amazing saves and enjoy watching the incredible talent that is on the team play! There isn’t a team in the NHL that is going to win every game, that is going to be perfect that is going to play like they can/should all the time. These guys are humans not machines, they are going to make mistakes and it’s how they are going to learn. Stop being haters and just enjoy the SPORT of hockey! After all this is a sport and no one is forcing you to support this team!
Ted, I almost never respond to anything like this, but have been a Caps fan since moving to the DC region in 1985 as a college student, and can’t stand the negativity when your team is generating the results the Caps are in the W/L column despite spotty play and injuries to key players.
At the end of the day, wins and losses are what matter. Losing a two-goal lead because of soft play and coasting is an issue, but coming back and winning a game you had under control shows the ability to bear down and get the job done. Understanding the team’s propensity for this kind of let down is something the coach has to focus on, and get through to players that it is not acceptable, and the privilege of playing time is based on hard work and results.
Lackluster efforts that result in losses are a much bigger concern. I’m hopeful that Coach Boudreau can instill a 60-minute work ethic in these guys and have them playing to their astronomical potential each and every game. This is one of the most talented teams I’ve ever seen, and as a long time Caps fun, one of the most fun to watch.
Go Caps!
I hardly think we’re the worst team in the NHL. Sometimes the timing of plays is off; sometimes someone’s having a bad night; sometimes the opposing team’s too good. Our PK’s GREAT this year, and our PP is coming up as well. It’s still early, having only played just over 1/8th of our regular season; certain concepts may still be in the works and sometimes we need a little time to hit a full stride and get things working.
However, this is still an exciting team to watch! Whoever told you that we’re the worst team in the NHL needs to have a drink or smoke a fat one and calm down. If he thinks this is bad, does he even remember what it was like under Hanlon? These last three years have been supercool to have under our belts – three trips in a row to the playoffs, the team’s many accomplishments, and just our play in general has improved so much. We’re competent enough to play among the best because WE ARE ONE OF THE BEST.
Good luck, have fun, and LET’S GO CAPS!!

Unreal…a win is a win. It’s early in the year. My only thing is as long as we progress and in the end be better come the March, April and so on months.
Go Caps. Dang it…we are only tied for first in the league. Relax people….but it does make for an entertaining read.
Ted, sometimes I think people would moan and complain even on the day we lift the Stanley Cup. You and your team are doing a brilliant job. Don’t ever let a vocal minority get you down.
