Mystics

I am not sure what the agenda was in writing this article as I didn’t understand the thesis within but I will say it again. We are committed to the Washington Mystics. And the WNBA.Sheila Johnson is the most passionate and engaged owner of a franchise I have seen in the WNBA. She loves the team; the players; and the fans. She is totally committed to the team’s success on the floor and at the gate.

We have invested as a partnership in every way imaginable.

We want to break the code and find a way for the team to trend toward profitability. We have a long, long way to go. Sheila is focused on the team’s performance on the floor and as a business enterprise.

Sheila is an advocate for the league and for the team in our partnership. I trust in her and her leadership for this franchise. I also care about the team and the league and the players. I go to games. I am involved in all matters related to the team as well.

As the article notes, one team in WNBA history has made money and that is a team that is owned and operated by a casino that plays in its own building so this Mystics team is an effort with a higher calling and a higher mission in mind. We want to do the right thing the right way and we want to have a franchise that is best in class in everything we do.

As noted, our expense structure remains high or highest in the WNBA. We will do our best to grow revenues and earn the support of our community. We are committed and Sheila is doing the right things for the franchise to remain viable and have a bright future.

Wish us well in that pursuit.

Bad is Bad

Good is good.

Last night’s game was ugly and we were done after ten minutes of the first period. Bad.

No one player can take accountability for our success or our failure. In any regard.

When you lose two games out of three by a score of 5 to 0, the team is in a funk. Injuries are taking their toll and it is time to regroup and do a gut check.

At the same time, after a quarter of the season, the team still is ranked high in all categories in the NHL and is tied for first place in the NHL. Good.

We will have peaks and valleys in performance. While troublesome, we want to be at peak performance though out the season. It just can’t happen. We will lose games and whether the score is 5-0 or 1-0, a loss is a loss.

So it is good to look at all the little things we are doing wrong as a team but we also can’t lose sight of the big picture.

It is a long grueling season. We need productivity from our best players. We need leadership from our best players in times like these.

Goaltending matters and last night’s injuries and call-ups weren’t the best way to get focused in such a critical format but it is what it is. No whining. We are good enough to overcome these situations.

Onward to the rest of the week. I attended the game last night in NJ. I sat with league officials. I met with the owner of the Devils. I had a stiff upper lip through out the night. I got home at 12:30 am. It was a 19 hour day and not a fun night. Life will go on. I am as disappointed in our performance last night as you all are but I can’t lose sight of the overall big picture. Go Caps!

24/7

This is just wonderful production value. This HBO 24/7 series is hockey heaven.

I am so pleased and I am so happy.

Thank you NHL. Thank you HBO. Click here and watch. See for yourselves.

I will be in NYC today and will go to the game tonight in New Jersey. I have never visited the Devil’s new arena and am anxious to see what the franchise has done at their building. Go Caps!

Learning How to Win

It is a cliché but it is very true in professional sports. Teams need to learn how to close out games and get the win. The difference between success and failure in pro sports is quite small. A few plays down the stretch make all the difference in the world.

We played well last night. We played a very good road game but a loss is a loss even though we went to OT.

We are making progress as a team, slowly and surely.

We are in every game now. We will start to get back our injured players over the next few weeks and we will become more competitive and we will soon be winning these close games that we are now losing. I am sure of it. I remain steadfast in being confident in our team’s development as we create an identity as a team and all these new players grow accustomed to playing with one another. Keep the faith. See you all on Tuesday night at Verizon Center.
