Karma Is As Karma Does

What goes around – goes around.

Live life with a double bottom line in mind.

Random acts of kindness and empathy matter.

I am very proud of you all. Thanks Caps fans. Read this one.

I am feeling a little bit under the weather and this one made me smile and feel good. I will be watching the game on TV tonight. I haven’t watched a home game on television in quite some time. Go Caps!

Good for Gilbert – Good for Us

A nice victory in front of a home crowd, a small but loyal crowd. Thank you for the support.

We played with energy and intensity. We closed out a win and withstood their runs.

Lots of young players got minutes. Other role players got additional minutes. Three players scored twenty points or more.

We played with poise at the right times and we cruised to a win.

We have to overcome injuries and day to day setbacks. That is all a part of becoming a team.

I am proud of the progress we are seeing in Gilbert Arena’s health and play on the court. It is also wonderful to see him smile and play with charisma and with a bit of swagger.

A good win and happy night. Onward.

The Global Economy May Leave Our Children Behind

Try to understand.

Try to speak the language.

I have a Rosetta Stone Russian software package. I thought it was a good idea to learn to speak some Russian.

Our children are being left behind. Language arts are being cut back in schools at a time when we are all going global.

Software and online services in education and learning to speak a foreign tongue are importanta at a time when most Fortune 500 companies are appointing CEOs that speak multiple languages and have a total 360 degree view of cultures and the world.

Don’t get left behind.

Use some free time to pick up another language. Beef up your resume.

Try to understand. Try to connect to everyone.

Use Rosetta Stone when needed. It is very affordable and allows you to time shift. Watch one less 30 minute television show per day. You will be conversational in another language quickly. It is smart and good business.

Give the gift of language training to your children this holiday season, too. Prepare them well for the future.

Gotta Suck It Up

We have to overcome inexperience and injuries and play tough competitive ball against Toronto.

There will be lots of minutes now available to our other young players. No time like tonight to make a good first impression.

Injuries are a part of the game. While short-handed, one door closes and another door may open.

Stay strong. We will get healthy. We will start to gel as a team. We will work hard for our fans and for each other.

Wish us luck. But more importantly, wish us good and better health.

Alex’s DVD

It is well done. It shows Alex as he really is: Happy, funny and with gusto for life and for his sport.

He loves his family. He loves his teammates. He respects his coaches and staff.

He loves our fans and he is so very happy to play here in Washington, DC.

I attended the opening event party last night and found Alex to be talkative; reflective; supportive; grateful; and working the crowd and cooperating with the media. He even signed some autographs for members of the media. He and I sat for an interview with the Dan and the Sports Bog. I crashed the interview just to be supportive and to have some fun.

“We’re lucky to have this life.” How many young men have that kind of great outlook and perspective?

Watch the video. You will enjoy it I believe. It shows Alex as he really is.

I also believe the HBO 24/7 series will also show an unfiltered Alex Ovechkin. He was mic’d for Sunday’s game and as he said to me, “I wasn’t happy when I turned the puck over on the power play and they scored short- handed. I cursed too much and then the coach wasn’t happy with me and he was cursing too. I bet George wasn’t happy either. I have work to do on my game. I promise I will play better. Don’t trade me yet Ted.”

Humble; funny; and he curses really good in English. :-) Go Caps!

Hoya Saxa

The Georgetown Men’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start. This is good for the University. Two good wins against two good teams.

Georgetown beat a tough Tulane team last night at Verizon Center 69-53.

The team’s guard play has been very good the first two games. Austin Freeman is a very talented player as is Chris Wright. They form a very efficient and strong back court perhaps one of the best in the land.

I am hopeful the team has a strong start before it enters a very tough Big East schedule. Hoya Saxa.

70th Straight Sell Out

Thank you Caps fans. It is a joy to see so many people dressed in red at our games.

We will never take for granted your time, effort and money as an investment into our team.

You are truly appreciated.

When we play “Unleash the Fury” at the game and the crowd stands and cheers, we truly become one of the loudest buildings in the league. The players notice. It pumps them up. It is no coincidence that we are now one of the toughest teams in the league to play against at home. We have been for four seasons now and our record proves that out. Thanks again.

I am happy that we showed determination and won the game yesterday. We played a tough team that is well coached.

Between the second and third periods yesterday, I met for a few moments with the owner of the Atlanta Thrashers. The score was tied 4-4. We basically said – in unison – “Hey – it is a tie. No one got hurt. Both teams are so tired after playing back to back and playing here after 20 hours or so. Want to just go home and call it a tie?” That is one tough schedule for both teams.

The game, I admit, was weird, goofy and showed some good hockey and some strange bounces. We performed what I think may be one of the worst power plays this season in the NHL complete with 3 breakaways from the other side and a short-handed goal. I couldn’t wait to get back to 5 on 5!

Through it all, we stayed calm. We scored 6 goals. We get the win and the two points. Eighteen games played. Twenty-seven points. A better start to this season than last season. We are in first place in the NHL with most goals scored.

But we aren’t happy with our state of play. We have upside. We can do better. We are highly critical so you don’t have to be. :-)

We will improve. We aren’t getting lazy. Try to enjoy the wins and the productivity. It is OK to have some fun.

Smart Analysis

Very astute – very true. We have work to do.

Read this one. Rebounding; getting to the free throw line more; and taking care of the ball. When you lose games by ten points or less, little things matter – like cherishing the ball; getting the ball off the boards like your life depended on it; grabbing a loose ball here or there; the 50/50 balls – and soon those losses become wins. Teachable moments indeed.
