Glad We Won a Game

Lots of work to do.

Job # 1 is to get back to being a healthy and fully functioning team.

The flu bug that ran through the team was a tough one. And yes – before you ask – our team does take flu shots as a precaution.

We have these tough little injuries to deal with, too: Jeff Schultz and his thumb in a cast. Mike Green is just banged up a lot and sick with flu. He is in the top 40 in scoring for D men. What does that say about his play this season? He has been slowed by being banged up and is playing like a warrior and for that we thank him. Nicklas Backstrom – flu. Alex Semin has a lower body injury. Eric Fehr has a family issue at home with the passing of a beloved family member. And on and on. Two steps forward then a step back.

We are now 9th in the NHL in points but 3rd in our division. We are certainly in a battle with Atlanta and Tampa. The Southeast division has improved dramatically.

We are ranked 7th in goals scored. Funny. The best teams in the NHL score a lot of goals. We are now middle of the pack in goal scoring. The league leading teams score the most goals, more than us. We need to get our offense going again led by our captain and our best players. Everyone needs to chip in.

There is a lot of hockey left to play, more than half the season.

We play an important game tonight at home against the NJ Devils.

It seems like we play four games per week, every week.

Mental toughness is important for us right now as well as fortitude and keeping a game by game mentality.

Wish us well tonight. Be loud and proud. We are short-handed on the ice but with you all in support, we can help lift the team’s spirits and cheer on a victory. That is the plan. Go Caps! Thank you.

Onward

We won’t rush John Wall back into the line-up.

There is no need to do so.

We want him healthy and pain free upon his return.

I want to thank Josh Howard for his professionalism. He worked diligently during his rehab. He is a positive person and for his first game back against the Heat I thought he played both sides of the ball incredibly well. He plays with passion and is a leader and unselfish on the floor. I am very happy he is back and getting his minutes now.

Having Josh back in the line-up is a very good development for the team. Integrating Rashard Lewis will be the next big deliverable for our coaching staff. Then getting John Wall back into the line-up and finally seeing how our team looks healthy will be a treat. Hang on and stay tuned.

We have work to do but the vibe is positive. The feeling is upbeat. That is wonderful to see in the arena now. See you all tonight as we play the Bobcats.
