Ugh

This is a good write-up on last night’s game.

To be frank, our youngest and first year players are our best players right now.

It is odd to see our core players being so unproductive.

Vancouver scores on a power play chance. We don’t. One goal differential.

A star player on Vancouver buries a breakaway opportunity on a bad turn over by us. We have the same opportunity but we don’t score on our breakaway chance. Two goal differential. End game.

We have a lot of work to do. The difference between success and failure is small. We need to bury our chances against all teams but truly take advantage of those chances against great competition.

We have many injuries to overcome. Our lines seemed jumbled. Our power play is unproductive and is manned by our best players. Our power play is contributing to our woes across the board. 8% conversion of late. No productivity from our star players.

More injuries.

With many games on the road coming up.

Time to bear down. Come together.

It’s Complicated

Our relationship with the Washington Post. My relationship with the Washington Post. And the mainstream media in general.

The owners of several of our local sports teams sat through a couple of hours with the Washington Post this week. We were asked questions on a panel by a very smart and tough editor. The session was filmed and streamed live to the Washington Post’s audience. I enjoyed the session and was honored to share the stage with my friends and colleagues.

The Washington Post sold sponsorships to the event and around the streaming broadcast. It sold tickets to the event. We were made into programming and the Washington Post “monetized” us.

We were reported on, too. A lot. Four days worth of content was generated. A virtual bonanza. Click here for even more.

There have been many articles written and many pixels generated by our talk and discussion.

Those articles then activated many other media outlets to write. They generated blog posts. We became ripples in a pond. They all sold some ads around our words. The monster was fed. Worldwide.

We place some ads in the Washington Post newspaper and website via our teams. We have a business relationship with them. It is respectful and productive. We give the Washington Post money.

Alone Together

This is a fantastic article.

This is what I was feeling and what generated my blog post around New Year’s Day on “New Ways of Working Together.”

Sherry Turkle is a great thinker in this space. I once brought her into AOL back in 1994 to speak to our folks about community, communications, privacy and new media. I remember her speech was riveting!

This book will be considered seminal work in this space, I am sure. “Little drops of dopamine every time we make a connection.” I love that concept. I talked about it all in my book The Business of Happiness as well. Let us all hear what Sherry has to say. Buy the book and read it in a physical format, too. For old time’s sake…
