JaVale McGee Deserved the Win!

I think JaVale deserved the win at the Slam Dunk contest.

He put on a show. He had style and class. He brought in the secret service. His mom was elegant! He dunked 3 balls with two hands! Come on!

He didn’t have a car. I recommended he bring in a jet or a hovercraft but the FAA nixed it! :-) What can be done next year to top all of this showmanship? Bring in a yacht? A tiger or a lion? The Spruce Goose?

Didn’t Gus Johnson once jump over a car? That was old school. A dunk that was derivative of a former Bullet.

JaVale is so gifted athletically.

And he is a nice young man with tremendous upside as a great player and a next generation big man. He can run, jump and entertain. He has upside.

And he is working on his fundamentals. His upside – along with John Wall’s upside – was a part of the conversation within NBA circles this weekend.

I am glad both John and JaVale went to LA and mingled with other NBA greats.

This will build their confidence and they deserved to have some fun.

They made us proud.

Now back to real work. And real basketball.

A Long Weekend

To move and unpack and try to settle into a new home for me and my family.

So no blog posts from me until next Tuesday. I am taking some time off. I will be reading email infrequently too as a heads up. I hope there are no emergencies and I will do my best to help if I can.

Enjoy the weekend with your family and friends.

Gotta Find a Way to Win at the Tank

I can’t believe we haven’t won a game in San Jose since 1993. That is an amazing and awful factoid.

I wish we could decline the power play sometimes – another short-handed goal against – but Alex Ovechkin tied it up on the power play less than 30 seconds later. Alex seems to be regaining form and it can’t come a minute too soon.

Back to back games on the road on the West Coast are tough but we have to keep grinding and find some more standings points on this road trip. On to Buffalo and then Pittsburgh. We remain 5th in the East with 70 points but the standings are really tightening up all over. Every game matters. Every point counts. That should be our new t-shirt mantra. Go Caps!

Tech Night

Here’s a great deal for the tech-minded basketball fan. Prior to Tuesday’s Wizards game against Indiana you can listen to a pre-game talk from Rick Kay, one of my Monumental Sports & Entertainment partners. Rick also chairman of SENTRILLION, a “TS” (Top Secret) border security, cyber-security, information assurance and healthcare managed services company, so he’s a perfect Tech Night speaker. Catch Rick at 6 p.m. in the Dewar’s 12 Clubhouse and then watch the Wizards and Pacers at 7 p.m. on Feb. 22.

This event is open only to those who purchase special discounted Tech Night tickets at https://oss.ticketmaster.com/html/group_corp_start.htmI?l=EN&team=wizards&owner=425&group=1519&err=&event=&customerID= and enter the promo code gwuwiz2. Tickets are available starting at $21. For additional information, please email wizardstechnight2011@gmail.com.
