Hockey’s Future Updated Rankings
ThisĀ is a pretty good snapshot regarding the Capitals’ top prospects. A good pipeline of youth with an emphasis on centers, defense and goaltending. Click here to check it out.
Don’t Get Too High with the Highs
Or too low with the lows.
Last night was a good win in OT and another two standing points.
We now have 82 points and jump into 3rd place in the East and 6th in the NHL.
We are 4 points out of first place in the East but let us be critical. The East is very bunched up and all of the standings can and will change. We play Tampa tonight in Tampa, a back to back game.
We have a very tough week. We play Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – 5 games in 7 days with 10 standing points at play.
As I have said, no rest for the weary. We are only 11 points into a playoff position with 16 games left to play.
The NHL is hypercompetitive. Each and every team we play is a good one and every team seems to be in a playoff race in the East or is rebuilt and working really hard to impress the staff of their club.
There are no easy games. There are no easy points. We respect every team and every game matters.
I wasn’t surprised to see the New York Rangers beat the Flyers yesterday 7 to 0. Were you? They have done it twice to us. Every team is a good one in the NHL. Anything can happen on a game by game basis.
I Admit It
I like the Strokes. Always have – always will.

Hard Work in Hershey
Well done OFB – a nice look at what is up in Hershey and a good interview with newest Capital Dmitri Orlov. Orlov is a “hot” prospect. One of four it seems that we have in our pipeline and just about every trading partner at the deadline asked George McPhee about his availability. George was steadfast that these four “hot” prospects were unmovable. And they were.
In spite of your ongoing doom and gloom pixel generation, this was good work and a very unique and positive perspective and we are grateful for the commitment. Hershey is under transition. We support them well and we are partners in everything we do.
It has indeed been a grind of a year – compared to last season – in the regular season for us and for the Hershey Bears.
Despite the angst; the negative vibes; and the name calling the Caps are in the thick of things sitting with 80 points as I write this blog post. Thanks for all you do. Peace. Out.
Sweet Win
That was a nice emotional win. I am proud of the team for rallying around the coach. We played with heart and I saw firsthand how in pain our coach was after just losing his mom. He deserved the support; the group hug; and the win – that is for sure.
I also know that Trevor Booker was hurting during the game.
In fact, he took himself out of the game at one point because he was too ill to play.
That he came back out and performed at a high level is a testament to his desire and will power. Those two power dunks were a big turning point in the game.
John Wall played a very mature game coming close to a triple double. And Andray Blatche as a number one scoring option played hard and was very productive.
Mo Evans was our leader in the 4th period. Well done. A good team effort all around.
I know Flip kept his sense of humor. At the tip off he said, “Ted – let us make NBA history tonight. I am thinking of starting or playing 5 NBA rookies at the same time.”
You know me. I said, “Go for it. Youth must be served.”

Empathy and Respect
Thank you for this respectful article breaking this sad news.
Our coach, Flip Saunders, lost his mother this week.
We all grieve and pray for peace for the family.
I have lost my mom and my dad. I empathize with what the coach is going through. We are all sons and daughters. We must all keep our parents in our thoughts and prayers. That is a universal thought.
