Our House is His House

The President of the United States has an open invitation to attend and enjoy a game at Verizon Center. He has attended a Wizards game; a Mystics game; and I am sure one day he will come and enjoy a Caps game. He loves competition and sports.

He is a true fan. We must be respectful of his schedule and the demands on his time. The invitation is extended and perpetual and is done so with much respect.

We Remain in 5th Place

In the East and 8th overall in the NHL.

We have 80 points.

We are 12 points up over the 9th place team for securing a playoff spot. There are now 17 games left to play this season.

We are 6th best in goals allowed now for the season, quite a successful turnaround in defensive play year over year.

We had our 94th straight sellout. Thank you so much.We are now 7-1 on Military Night. Thank you very much.

We have won 3 straight and our new additions are contributing quite well. The fortifications have seemed to be quite additive to our lines and the options presented to our coach and staff.

We have a tough few days now with back to back games in Florida on Sunday and Monday.

Wish us well as we try to gel.

Piling On

I call these articles “piling on.”

They are smug.

They are easy to write. They actually offend our fans more than they do me.

And they are ones that I keep and then reference in the out years to remind the writers of their naiveté and lack of substance. We use them, too, as motivation.

Here are some basic facts.

The Washington Wizards have a great fan base.

We have reactivated them in big numbers.

We are one of the fastest growing teams in the NBA in terms of PAID admissions.

Our ticket sales and sponsorship revenues are up more than 30% year over year. Our customer satisfaction levels are quite strong. Our renewal rates will be much better than the past 3 years.

Our losses because of great management are down substantially while we have cleared cap space and over indexed on young players that give us hope and upside and the ability to compete in out years with other markets for players to help us to win.

LaVar on Wizard’s Rebuild

I have to admit, I have been very impressed with LaVar’s knowledge of the NBA and of basketball in general. So I blush and have to admit that I am happy that he wrote this article.

A few more comments to hopefully add value.

We also have as part of the plan clearing cap space so that we can attract and add vet free agents in the future. We will have that now.

We want to have our young players get minutes now and gain experience now under tough circumstances. They have to play so we can evaluate their upside.

We want to add new fresh talent via the draft and we do have two picks in round 1 coming up. One of those picks will be a high one. Add that to our three first round picks last season where we added Wall, Booker and Seraphin. And another first round pick that was drafted in Atlanta, Crawford.

We also will need cash to keep some of our players that we decide are a part of our long term build.

Plus who knows what new rules there might be – if any – in the new labor agreement in the NBA? Having flexibility I think is only goodness. We are positioned well.

The Chicago Bulls impressed many of our fans and the media here in DC with their play this week.

May I remind folks of this – their point guard; their center; their small forward – all starters and foundational players – were all drafted and developed by the team. They have played together now for three years. They are starting to gel.

Look at the Bulls’ past championship teams, too. Jordan, Pippin, Armstrong, King, Kukoc and Perdue were all drafted and developed by the team. The year before the Bulls drafted Michael Jordan they had a 27-55 record. In Michael Jordan’s first year, the Bulls were 38-44.

This is the way of a rebuild. Get young; draft high; clear cap space; improve; and get better and better and better. That is the plan. Thank you.

NoiseTrade

A fantastic site and a wonderful idea. A double bottom line business model. Reminds me a bit of the SnagFilms mantra only for music. I love work such as this. Such a wonderful higher calling, indeed. Check this one out ASAP.

Vets and Youth

We are happy to have added such a mature and polished and veteran player such as Jason Arnott to our roster. He has won a Stanley Cup. He has “seen the movie before.” A nice article here.

And we are pleased to have signed Dmitri Orlov to an entry level contract. He is now playing quite well in Hershey. He is a fast developing well rounded defense man. This looks like a terrific draft pick. We are loaded once again with really terrific prospects in our pipeline.

One 19 year vet and one first time rookie coming to America.

The circle of life in pro sports.

Boooo

Here is a good story about booing your local sports team.

My take: You paid for your tickets with money and with time.

You are free to cheer and boo and be passionate in any way you deem fit.

You just need to behave in a civil manner and be considerate of your fellow fans in the arena.

I understand the urge to boo. I understand the compulsion to stand and cheer and celebrate.

I am hopeful our teams make you cheer way more than boo over a lifetime of service.

This is a fun read. Thank you.
