I have to admit, I have been very impressed with LaVar’s knowledge of the NBA and of basketball in general. So I blush and have to admit that I am happy that he wrote this article.
A few more comments to hopefully add value.
We also have as part of the plan clearing cap space so that we can attract and add vet free agents in the future. We will have that now.
We want to have our young players get minutes now and gain experience now under tough circumstances. They have to play so we can evaluate their upside.
We want to add new fresh talent via the draft and we do have two picks in round 1 coming up. One of those picks will be a high one. Add that to our three first round picks last season where we added Wall, Booker and Seraphin. And another first round pick that was drafted in Atlanta, Crawford.
We also will need cash to keep some of our players that we decide are a part of our long term build.
Plus who knows what new rules there might be – if any – in the new labor agreement in the NBA? Having flexibility I think is only goodness. We are positioned well.
The Chicago Bulls impressed many of our fans and the media here in DC with their play this week.
May I remind folks of this – their point guard; their center; their small forward – all starters and foundational players – were all drafted and developed by the team. They have played together now for three years. They are starting to gel.
Look at the Bulls’ past championship teams, too. Jordan, Pippin, Armstrong, King, Kukoc and Perdue were all drafted and developed by the team. The year before the Bulls drafted Michael Jordan they had a 27-55 record. In Michael Jordan’s first year, the Bulls were 38-44.
This is the way of a rebuild. Get young; draft high; clear cap space; improve; and get better and better and better. That is the plan. Thank you.
