Small Percentage
The Washington Post ran its poll. Do you love, hate or are you indifferent to the moves made by the Washington Capitals?About 2,000 people took the poll.
On Sturm – 69% percent of the people loved the signing and 1% hated it.
On Arnott – 64% loved the signing and 11% hated it (mostly because these fans liked and respected David Steckel)
On Wideman – 70% loved it and 3% hated it.
I just took the poll today and saw the updated percentages.
OverallĀ a lot of positive sentiments here. Thank you. Love is in the air.
But wait – read the comments. Almost 90% are negative on the trades.
What does that tell you?
The small percentage of people that “hate” are the people with the loudest voices, with the most opinions and with the most comments.
Thank goodness for the nice silent or happy majority and for the people who are fans and customers of the Washington Capitals.
I try to hear and listen to all voices but this little social media experiment was quite instructive. We need to look at mass numbers and input and listen to all voices but understand the percentages of the communities of interest we serve. Thank you.
Day Job
Day Laborers.
A real part of our economy.
I once worked on a crew in Lowell, Mass. for construction jobs during a two week spring break from college.
I met very interesting people.
This is a very tough to watch film. It is necessary for us all to understand what life is like for everyone. Have empathy. Learn.
Counterintuitive to Naysayers
To a man, our new players are very happy to be here in DC and play for the Washington Capitals. They have big smiles on their faces.
We have players that waived no trades to come here. We have players that have played in hockey markets and non hockey markets and couldn’t wait to come here. Players want to come here as Free Agents as well.
And they were all smiling this week post trade deadline.
Why?
DC has become a hockey town.We have great facilities at Kettler with top notch staff. It is a fun environment.
Verizon Center is a great building and the sea of red is well known now around the NHL now. DC is a great city and a great housing market. It is very sophisticated with lots to do as a single person and lots to do for families.
A happy wife makes for a happy life and word is out about the quality of life here in DC.
And most importantly the players know we have consistency in our ownership, front office and coaching staff. They know we are dedicated to winning and that we have talented players and welcoming stars. At the end of the game last night I walked into the locker room and there was Alex Ovechkin and Jason Arnott on bikes sprinting away, talking and smiling together. Exactly what I wanted to see!
Players around the league want to come to DC.
Our fans have tipped us into becoming a must play for team and destination. I am so grateful to you all.
It also gives me hope that we will do THE EXACT same things for the Washington Wizards.
We will rebuild the team and franchise and make DC a hotbed of basketball. Players and free agents will consider us a “have” team with the same dynamics as above.
Stay tuned. We shall see how long it takes.
Vintage Ovechkin
His 25th goal of the season.
His 9th game winner. Most in the NHL.
Give the man his due.
Click and enjoy. Nice play Alex. Thank you. Go Caps!

We Have to Make the Playoffs First
A playoff berth isn’t guaranteed to us or many other teams in the hunt right now.
There are many games left to play and many points left on the board. I remember us catching a team on the very last day of the season in Bruce’s first year as coach.
We can’t talk about the playoffs yet.We have to be focused on each shift, each period and each game from here on out.
We need to qualify for the playoffs before we can worry about the playoffs.
That is the mentality we need right now as a franchise. Nothing is given. Everything is earned.

We will try to develop a next generation accountable and metric-based set of programs that benefit local merchants and consumers here in the DC area.
This is a first of its kind program. I am very excited to help implement it to everyone’s benefit.
Sign up for Groupon today and check out all we offer at Verizon Center in regards to this new program. Thank you.
An “A-” Student
Wow. Lots of chatter and lots of comments and lots of opinions and lots of grades all around trade deadline day.
Puck Daddy does a good roundup here and gives us a high score.
We received lots of good scores from media and fans and pundits and bloggers. It is good and positive to generate pixels that glow but now it will come down to execution; chemistry; development; recovery from injuries; and some good luck.
Go Caps! See you all tonight at Verizon Center.
