Very Proud of Peter Barris

It is led by a good friend, Peter Barris.

Peter Barris is the founding VC investor in MediaBank and in Groupon, among many others. He sourced Groupon and was first in.

Here is a great interview with him on TechCrunch. Thank you.

We beat NJ on the road last night 3 to 0.

At one point in the middle of the game we had less than 5 shots on goal and a 1-0 lead.

We looked like the vintage NJ Devils out there. We had great goaltending. We clogged up the neutral zone. We killed their 4 minute power play.

We played a mature and polished game. We were patient. We took what NJ gave us.

Segment one of a tough road trip is complete. We beat Montreal; we lost in Detroit by a goal; and we won in NJ.

We now have 94 points. While tied for first place in the East, we have played a lot more games than many of our competitors so it doesn’t matter right now. We only have 9 games left. We are close to clinching a playoff spot. We have even more injuries mounting. We shall rest up and go to Philly on Tuesday. Wish us well.

I hope you are proud of your team? Go Caps!

Recently there’s been a series of articles, columns and polls in several of our hometown newspapers regarding our local sports teams, their business prospects and some new marketing initiatives. The same theme has been tackled by several bloggers as well. These articles are not worthy of any link love.

I am surprised and frankly a bit disappointed in that many of these articles are misinformed, have incorrect information and the reporters didn’t reach out to me to ask for specific information. As I noted, we will soon unveil our new look, feel and new jersey designs and I look forward to hosting the bloggers and reporters who have written about the work we have done without any official or formal information.

I also want to share some facts as to our respective businesses. The Washington Capitals reached 96% renewals for our season ticket holder base last evening. Our business is quite strong and we are ranked in the top half dozen teams in the entire NHL in terms of paid admissions. Knowing the media business like I do, I bet our lack of churn is the envy of the newspaper circulation departments.

The Washington Wizards will reach better than 80% renewals of our season ticket holder base at the end of our renewal process. We will meet the NBA average for this most important metric. We also believe we will sell thousands of new season tickets and will enter the next season with more than double the number of STH than we acquired the team.

We have an incredibly loyal fan base and the Wizards are one of the fastest growing teams in the NBA in terms of the growth of our paid season ticket base. So in this world of random pixel generation, speculation and comments I wanted you to hear directly from me so that you can understand that the teams that you love and support are healthy, growing and successful. You as fans are why we are in business and all of us are appreciative of your time, passion and commitment. Thank you very much.
