Grateful and Thankful

Last night was our 100th consecutive sellout at a Caps game.

Because of your support, all of our playoff games will be sold out.

And all of our games for next season are already sold out.

We have come along way as a franchise and I never forget that it is all because of you and your support and good wishes.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

We all saw a goofy crazy game last night with odd goals scored for both teams.

It wasn’t pretty but we were productive with Alex Ovechkin scoring his 11th winning goal. We win in OT and we are grateful that the last bounce went our way.

We now have 103 points. We are in first place in the East but Philly has a game in hand.

We are now second in the NHL in terms of points.

We have one week left of the regular season.

About ten days or so before our first playoff game; three games left to play; and one more at home.

Wish us well. Wish us health and good fortune. And thank you again. Go Caps!

Sobering

ESPN reports thus:

Flyers–last Cup won–1975.

Canucks–last Cup won–never.

Sharks–last Cup won–never.

Capitals–last Cup won–never.

Four talented and competitive teams.

Three that have never won a Cup and one that last won a Cup when I was in college.

Winning a championship is hard in life; in sports; and in pro sports most importantly. Very sobering.

And Speaking of Rebuilds…

Philly lost last night. They have 102 points.

We play tonight. We have 101 points. Should we win we would be in first place in the East.

While not the big inspirational goal we have set for ourselves as a team, a win would make a nice statement to our fans that we have been a consistently good team for the last four years and one of the best in the NHL during the regular season.

And we qualify for the playoffs with good seeding with regularity. As promised as part of the plan.

And now to be prepared and to try to get healthy for the playoffs which start in about 10 day’s time.

We have some call ups from Hershey for tonight’s game. They are prepared so well by the Bears. I am hopeful we don’t miss a beat. Go Caps! See you tonight, our last weekend home game of the regular season. Wear something red.

As Expected

Letting young kids play big minutes and encouraging them and teaching them leads to upside and hope. And is a part of an announced rebuild.

Jordan Crawford is going to be a special player. He is a rookie. He scored a triple double last night after scoring 39 against Miami the game before. He took control of the game last night with his scoring, passing and his energy. We identified him as a special player as a part of the trade we made with Atlanta and he seems to the steal of the deal. Along with John Wall and Nick Young, we now will have a young, aggressive and very good and developing back court for years on out.

And John Wall was named Eastern Conference rookie of the month. He, too, had scored a triple double during the year. As has JaVale McGee, who also had a big game last night. Three young players that are developing before your very eyes.

I am proud of the way Andray Blatche played last night. He was a beast on the boards and in getting offensive rebounds. He scored a lot but it was his playing big and grabbing rebounds alongside McGee that was so impressive. THAT is what we are talking about!

And our secret weapon in regards to playing tough and competitive – thank you to Mo Evans, a true professional. He is a natural leader of young men and is like a coach on the floor out there. I am very happy he has joined our team.

It is really amazing that we are playing with high spirits and competitiveness and energy being so young and so short-handed.

We are a fun team to watch. We see glimpses of our future. It looks good, doesn’t it?

We will add talent to the team via the draft; via astute trades; and via free agency because we have cap space.

We are rebuilding and I am appreciative of your continuing support. Season ticket renewals are quite strong. That is the first sign of a show of faith and belief. Thank you so much.

My Take on John Wall

I have great respect for John Wall’s competitive spirit.

We have his back. We are in this together.

He learned a lesson here but we support him 110%.

He is a very nice young man; very polite; and very respectful. He is very coachable.

The suspension is unfortunate but we accept it via the NBA rules and regulations.

John is the centerpiece of our rebuild.

I am proud of him. He is being tested in many ways in this his rookie year and year one of our rebuild.

He is remorseful about this incident but he is not a rough and tumble player. He is a talent; a leader; and a great and upstanding young man.

We will miss him tonight. Lessons learned and now onward.

101 Points

Only three teams to date have garnered 100 points or more this season in the NHL.

Four games left to play.

Fighting for a Division title.

Two more home games left after last night’s OT win.

A good grind it out season is a week or so away from conclusion.

Who will we play in the playoffs?

Can we get home ice advantage?

Can we eke out a first place finish in the East?Down the stretch we come.

Have some fun.

Enjoy it.

Embrace it.

Try to be happy. You can do it.

Go Caps! Thank you.

Of That Which We Cannot Discuss

Dennis Wideman is in good hands.

Our doctors have done great work and we are all in support of him and his family.

I spoke to him today and he is in good spirits. I sent along all of our fans’ best wishes to him as well. Wish for a speedy recovery.

In regards to John Erskine, I wish he hadn’t answered the bell at last night’s game.

We have only five games left to play and John gets into a scrap against a non-conference team and sustains an injury. We are short-handed on the blue line as it is. We need him back in the lineup. He is a good player and a great teammate.

Of that which we cannot discuss is too much discussed. It too shall pass.
