I am most appreciative of these kind words of support by John Wall.
We love and respect you, too!
He is the young man we are rebuilding our team around. As I noted, he “gets it” and will be the catalyst for our improvement and future gains we make. We are in it together on the same page. Isn’t that refreshing to see?
Thank you. I am loyal and I believe. That is just me, warts and all. I also believe in being supportive and in continuity and in being grateful. I think world class organizations show those traits.
I cringe at articles that note we should terminate or fire this person or that person. I never understand the motivation.
Imagine if the shoe was on the other foot? A true lack of empathy.
This article shows how supportive the organization has been of its entire staff and I am appreciative of this piece.
As noted we believe we had to get bigger, tougher and stronger down low to compete in the playoffs. We made a bunch of moves yesterday to fulfill that plan. I am very happy with the quick pivot in strategy and the new plan. Read all about what we have done here and here. And I expect more moves. Get ready for a new season — coming soon.
A quick rant.
What a strange article coming on top of another article in which we were called upon to fire our head of basketball operations. By a writer who doesn’t attend many games.
I find it ironic that this station doesn’t really cover the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards as they are owned by the local football team. They have lost an entire generation of sports fans because of that lack of programming sensibility as I predicted. Media properties need to generate a big audience by covering a large swath of listener interest. This station and its personalities – for the most part – don’t like hockey, pro basketball, baseball or soccer. They would never write an article like this about the football team. I doubt the writer would have the gumption to do so. And I find it ironic that an AM radio station – which I can’t hear at night because of static – calls a fast growing NBA team “invisible.” That is funny.
Sometimes I just don’t get it. Sorry. Had to vent.
Thank you Wizards fans. Thank you for a wonderful season and for all of your support. Thank you; thank you; thank you. Thank you for believing in what we are trying to build – together – here in the DMV.
We ended the home season in a fun way with an OT win over the Boston Celtics. The Celtics didn’t play their full contingent of players and we had a large contingent of players in suits on our bench as well. But the players that did put on jerseys played with intensity and with heart. I am happy we won for our fans.
We all had fun. The team started to play like a team with great upside this last month of the season and we are optimistic about our future. Youth must be served!
Our President of basketball operations; our coach; our ownership group; our staff; and our players all say thank you. Come along for the ride. One more game in Cleveland on Wednesday and then off to a busy off season. We look forward to the next season and to a great unveiling of our new uniforms and court design; the draft; and everything else dedicated to improving the team. I thought you would enjoy reading this story by the way.
More to think about. A good read here. See what I mean by clicking here.
As the playoffs begin, we want all of our players to have a singular focus – the pursuit of the Stanley Cup. For a lot of teams, that means closing practices to the public in the playoffs. I don’t believe in that, and I’ve promised that all practices at Kettler Capitals Iceplex will be open and free. We do, however, want to make it easier for our players to go to and from practice. With that in mind we are establishing a secure area for players to park their cars that will be off-limits to the public.
I know many of our fans enjoy getting autographs from the players as they leave the rink; I know there have been many days that I’ve looked out my window and smiled at the sight of so many people in red in the parking lot. But at times, especially recently, the crowds have been overwhelming.
I hope our fans understand why we feel we need to do this to create a more focused work environment for our players. And please keep in mind that this is by no means a permanent move.
Thanks as always for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at Verizon Center, Kettler Capitals Iceplex and around D.C. during what we hope are an exciting few months ahead.
The Washington Capitals will play a pre-season game in Baltimore, Maryland. Here are the details. Thank you so much for your support.
