I hope you will like the new uniforms and logos that have been created and the new color motif.
As promised, we tried to pay homage to the past and what you liked most about the traditional look and feel and still give the uniforms a modern twist.
We will have many team alumni at the event today which is always a great tradition.
The event will start at 1100 am and you can watch it on Comcast SportsNet. Or watch it on our website.
There are two uniforms – a home white uniform and an away red uniform.
In the NBA home team wears white as you all know.
The changing of the colors is significant in that it now makes red, white and blue the major theme for all three of our sports teams – the Capitals, Wizards and Mystics. I think being located in our Nation’s Capital, that this was an easy and obvious decision.
I am also hopeful that we can create a new iconic mark that will make its way to less expensive merchandise such as hats and t-shirts so that many people can represent our franchise and that they will be proud to wear the mark and think it looks sharp, simple and is a badge that represents us locally!
And it also will help us harken back to the best parts of our past traditions and winning ways.
What we have done is simple and I think elegant. The players like it very much and I hope you will too.
I also know that changing the colors is just a small step in our overall rebuild plan, just 1 of 101 things to do.
I also know that the jerseys and new look and feel will look much better if we can build a winning franchise.
As noted, we could not and did not change the name of the team. We were able – by NBA rules – to change the color motif; add some new word marks and logos; change up how we present that pallet; and bring to you – in one season – a new look and feel.
I thank our partners at the NBA and Adidas for their great work here.
Come back after 11:00 am EST to see the new uniforms.
Thank you so much.
You may want to tell your folks going out to promote the new uniforms on local television to find a better way to describe them. “Stars and Bars” was what the Confederate flag was called. Is that really the name you want out there for a team in this nation’s capitol?
Looks great, will look even better next year when they go back to BULLETS…See you next year
Ted,
I LOVE the uniform change. I have a concern though; when trying to order a custom jersey from the NBA shop as well as the Wizards store site, I don’t see the option. All I see are John Wall jerseys. Anything you can do?
Thanks.
The logos, colors and unis is a home run!! Great job linking the past glory years of the franchise to the new look. That blue/teal had to go. Dull and uninspiring. Thanks for the new look that reflects a past when this franchise led by Wes and E brought the first championship to DC in 35 years!!
New unis are good, but a NEW GM would be great! Nay, excellent, spectacular, overwhelming, wonderful, outstanding phantasmagorical!!! i.e…totally necessary!
I rather like the retro look although I can’t say I like the red-white-blue treatment: a little too trite and too Philadelphia 76ers for my taste.
“Bullets” was a fine moniker when the team was in Baltimore; “Washington Bullets”, having lost the alliteration, never sounded right. I assume “Wizards” was chosen for the alliteration too and hope that if the team’s name is changed in the future, the new name somehow symbolizes the city or, as a poor second, at least retains the alliteration.
Ted – You say “In the NBA home team wears white as you all know.”
What about the Lakers, who wear yellow at home? Was there any discussion about a red home, and maybe a blue road jersey?
we’ll be there tonight to get some new gear! maybe trade in some of those 0 jerseys we have!
Back to the Future…like the colors and the DC logo.
let’s make sure the RIGHT PLAYERS are wearing it.
thanks Ted.
THANK YOU!!! I don’t even care about changing the name back to Bullets anymore.
i wanted more DC stars, but can’t complain about the new DC logo or the monument logo. I just hope that means the Wizard will be scarce. it appears that way, although currently i can buy a new color scheme Wizard hat but not the DC logo hat in the online store.
As an adult who doesn’t buy jerseys, can’t wait to see the “shooting shirts” and warm ups.
Paul, it does seem like the NBA makes it easier for a team to leave a city without paying off its loans than to change their name.
After complaining on this blog about the Caps, it’s nice to be able to compliment you about the Wizards new jerseys. I think they look great. My kids and I are excited to check them out…. Glad we held off replacing our Arenas’ jerseys with new Wall jerseys last season.
Love the new uniforms…
TED
LOL..your brilliant. These are the Bullets Jersey colors..next step is the name change which is 100% happening in my opinion. When i first saw the Jersey, i thought Bullets and was shocked to see the wizards name still there.
cant wait till next years name change. Go Bullets. Bullets Forever!
Jay
Just out of curiosity, and if you are allowed to talk about it, what keeps an owner from changing the name of his team?
The new uniforms are sweet. Thanks, Ted.
Until you change the name back to Bullets, it is just smoke…………
is it streamING live, or isn’t it? i don’t see anything but COMMERCIALS.
If you’re going to invite people to watch live on comcast it might be a good idea to link their site from the wizards site – where it says – “watch on comcast sports net”
just a thought.
two comments.
1.) FIRST (sorry, had to do it)
2.) I can’t wait!
If you look good, you’ll play good. If you look like clown, you’ll play like a clown.
You mentioned not being able to change the name of the team. Was that a consideration?
