Silly But Fun Season

Mock drafts.Expert opinions.

From some folks who have never seen a player play, they speak with conviction about players; what they are good at; and what is happening behind close doors. I love this Internet thing!

This is all great for generating interest and speculation but I am always surprised by the deep held convictions some people have about players they have never even seen play in real time; never met; and never scouted. Never talked to teammates, coaches and doctors. The opinions are all based on other opinions of people who have never seen the player play.

These are exciting times. Times filled with hope and promise. And lots of pixels. And lots of unnamed sources.

Go for it. Have fun. But to be honest, be just a tad skeptical of some of the experts who have never seen a player play a live game.

  1. Imma help you out Ted, draft Tristan Thompson and Jordan Hamilton they’re both gonna be solid players to pair with Wall and Mcgee. Kawhi has bust written all over him too high to be taken at 6 but if you can’t resist his defensive potential draft him and Tobias Harris. This draft doesn’t have too many stars in it and none available at 6 so draft on potential and remember the real star to pair with Wall in the future is gonna be in next years draft and you can pick anybody because that draft gonna be loaded with the Wizards needs SG,SF,PF. you welcome

  2. Ted,
You need a good take-charge SF. Trade the rights to Nick Young to MN for the second pick and take Derrick Williams. The first team future line-up would then look like this:
    Wall-PG
    Crawford-SG
    Williams-SF
    Blatche-PF
    McGee-C

This would represent a good young team for many years to come. Then, all you would need to do is work on improve the bench.

    That’s my take.

    Wild Bill

  3. Let me get this straight:

Fans who watch Baltche play all the time say he’s a bum and you defend him by saying you believe in stats.

Fans then use stats to say who they like in the draft and you says the fans know nothing since they haven’t watched the player.

    How interesting…

  4. Ted gets an attitude anytime you have a negative opinion about a player or move that you don’t agree with. Hey Ted, how’s that Hilton Armstrong signing working? I remember you making the same lame argument about never having seen him play so what do we know. Guess, what. We don’t have to sit courtside to watch a player play to know whether they’re any good or not.

  5. Even though flip’s teams never guard anybody… And don’t count Detroit (Carlisle and LB taught them defense). Flip just enjoyed the ride

  6. Don’t get too smug…I saw Etan Thomas in person and on tv for years and for some reason Ernie dropped about 40mil on him and forced about 2 other trades because he sucked so bad and no one would take his ridiculous contract. Hoopshype.com gives tremendous scouting reports. I don’t NEED to see everyone play to know that if you guys don’t think DEFENSE, REBOUNDING, and SIZE with your picks then you are making mistakes

  7. I don’t have to see Andray Blatche, Nick Young, Yi Jianlian, Hilton Armstrong in person to know they are terrible NBA players.

  8. So we should shut up and let the grown ups handle it? The site you linked to (bulletsforever.com) has some pretty knowledgeable folks running it and participating on it. It is where I go for knowledgeable (and fun) discussion about the Wizards. We fans discuss sports for fun. Opinions are just that and we’re all entitled to ours. You should be happy that you have that many people who root for the Wizards rather than becoming offended when someone offers a negative opinion..

  9. I’m guessing this means the Wizards are taking Kawhi Leonard or Jan Vesely.

  10. On the other hand, I wonder if Ernie has ever seen some of these international players in person? Usually Milt Newton is the guy making those trips. If Ernie only goes to EuroCamp in Treviso he won’t see them in live game situations. If not, then he has seen less than some scouting websites such as DraftExpress who travels extensively.
