Rave Reviews

It was an exciting day – unveiling our red, white and blue Wizards uniforms, showcasing our new marks and seeing so many alumni in attendance. It was special. I want to thank Mrs. Pollin and others for their kind words.

What they are saying about the Wizards’ new look …

“I am absolutely delighted by the newly unveiled Wizards uniforms. The return to a red, white and blue color scheme is a wonderful way to celebrate the past while looking towards the future. The revamped logos are a strong, favorable and natural evolution of the Wizards brand, and I applaud Ted Leonsis for bringing this refreshing, yet familiar look back for Wizards fans of all ages to enjoy. My heart is still with you – go Wizards!”
- Mrs. Irene Pollin, former Wizards owner

“I think it’s awesome…I think it’s great, and I think that as silly and trivial as it sounds, the red Capitals jerseys went hand in hand with their success…so I think this a huge, significant moment.”
- Dan Steinberg, Washington Post

“The NBA team unveiled its new red, white and blue color scheme and uniforms Tuesday, a blast from the past that was overwhelmingly welcomed as long overdue.”
- Joseph White, Associate Press

“I think that all of a sudden, it’s a great reconnect. I think Ted has really reached out to the former players to reconnect. He’s bringing the players back into an organization where they have many wonderful memories and wonderful thoughts here in Washington D.C.”  - Elvin Hayes, NBA Hall-of-Famer and Bullets legend

“It’s like an old-school type jersey. I wish last year we could have worn it. It’s unique. We’re the nation’s capital team, so why not be red, white and blue?” – John Wall, Wizards Point Guard

“It’s hard not to like the Wizards’ new uniforms, either. The red, white and blue color scheme was a foregone conclusion, even before guests to yesterday’s festivities were greeted by a sea of red, white and blue balloons in the hallway…but the Wizards’ one NBA title came in red, white and blue.”
- Tracee Hamilton, Washington Post

“Love Wizards new red, white and blue unis.”
- Marc Spears, Yahoo! Sports via Twitter

“Ted Leonsis’s approval ratings just went off the chart. The home uniforms are so beautiful they make me weep.”
- DC Sports Bog

Wizards Uniform Change

I hope you will like the new uniforms and logos that have been created and the new color motif.

As promised, we tried to pay homage to the past and what you liked most about the traditional look and feel and still give the uniforms a modern twist.

We will have many team alumni at the event today which is always a great tradition.

The event will start at 1100 am and you can watch it on Comcast SportsNet. Or watch it on our website.

There are two uniforms – a home white uniform and an away red uniform.

In the NBA home team wears white as you all know.

The changing of the colors is significant in that it now makes red, white and blue the major theme for all three of our sports teams – the Capitals, Wizards and Mystics. I think being located in our Nation’s Capital, that this was an easy and obvious decision.

I am also hopeful that we can create a new iconic mark that will make its way to less expensive merchandise such as hats and t-shirts so that many people can represent our franchise and that they will be proud to wear the mark and think it looks sharp, simple and is a badge that represents us locally!

And it also will help us harken back to the best parts of our past traditions and winning ways.

What we have done is simple and I think elegant. The players like it very much and I hope you will too.

I also know that changing the colors is just a small step in our overall rebuild plan, just 1 of 101 things to do.

I also know that the jerseys and new look and feel will look much better if we can build a winning franchise.

As noted, we could not and did not change the name of the team. We were able – by NBA rules – to change the color motif; add some new word marks and logos; change up how we present that pallet; and bring to you – in one season – a new look and feel.

I thank our partners at the NBA and Adidas for their great work here.

Come back after 11:00 am EST to see the new uniforms.

Thank you so much.
