A funny column about retaining home grown talent and people of character. I believe in young players. Developing them, retaining them, and adding to that core. Retention is important. I believe in keeping a franchise successful. There is lots of natural churn in a franchise; player turn over via trades, retirement and free agency. Keeping young players as they enter their prime years is a key trait of great clubs.
Read this one from Dan’s blog today. Thank you.
As I was entering Verizon Center yesterday I saw John Wall pulling out of the garage after a hard work out and who was in the car with him? Shelvin Mack.
I stopped and talked to both young men. They know each other and will play with one another. They will bond together on and off the floor.
John will go to LA for a bit and work out with a group of our players: Nick Young, Jordan Crawford and JaVale McGee.
I like that these young players are bonding, working out together and hanging out together.
Creating team chemistry amongst players adds competitive advantages.
Click here to read about Shelvin Mack. I believe our draft this off season yielded three players that can play in rotation for the team for years to come.
How long could you go without Google? Facebook? and being connected?
College students made this film. A social experiment. No heads down texting. Having to look people in the eye. Having to make real world connections…imagine that?
A really good one on SnagLearning. Like drug addicts kicking the habit!Let us celebrate outdoor living this long weekend. Let us connect more with each other. But first watch this film. LOL. On SnagFilms.com.
I am fascinated by this article and these studies.
Cultural fit, happiness, math and sciences vs. liberal arts and happiness. Read this one. Very compelling ideas and results. Thank you.
Andray Blatche goes on a charity mission.
I am proud of Andray and his philanthropic efforts. He volunteers his time, efforts and dollars for many local charities. This particular one to Jamaica will be a worthwhile experience for him. Read this one if you have the time. Thank you.
The Right to Be Left Alone

I am happy we have retained Brooks Laich. He was a highly sought after free agent. It is a testament to our organization and to the kind of player Brooks is that he has returned to the fold and to his hockey family.
He is a talented multi-purpose player with high integrity and a great motor. He loves our city and our fan base. I am grateful that he has shown his belief in our team and that he is dedicated to doing whatever possible to help us achieve all of our collective aspirations.
He is a winner and I am proud of him. He is very reflective of the kind of player we want to reward and keep in our franchise. Go Caps! Click here to read the release. Thank you.
