A Good One to Read

One never knows.

Having multiple picks is good. The draft is one way to find players that can contribute. It is also the way to find your core group of players that will play together for many years. Continuity is something I believe in. Note: Joe Dumars, who was picked at 18 and was teamed with several other first rounders to form a core of great players in Detroit. Rick Barry, who broke our hearts in the finals, was the 18th pick.

We wanted to have additional first round picks this year. We ended up with two of the first twenty.

We ended up via our picks and trades having 4 first round picks last season; Wall, Booker, Seraphin and Crawford. Four players that have shown they can play in the league.

Two more this season will be added. That is a huge injection of young talent fast.

Then, we hope to add vets via trades and free agency.

And we use the D League-and we scout heavily in Europe as well.

We want to use every tool available now to help the team in its rebuild.

Under the right scenario we would buy another first round pick.

We would only trade a first round pick to move up if the player we wanted was available.

We will try to be aggressive. We will try to be smart.

We will manage the salary cap well too to keep our players under contract and to have freedom to add players to the team at the right time. Click here.

Busy

My hotel in NYC was sold out. We couldn’t eat in the lobby restaurant. The jack hammers outside the hotel went on all night – I am serious. I didn’t sleep a wink. They work 24/7 in midtown constructing a new subway station. Busy.

The hotel where we held our meetings yesterday were packed. The wireless connectivity was at over capacity. We couldn’t get online. Busy.

No cabs available in midtown. Busy.

Twitter right now showed me an error message that they are out of capacity and to come back soon. Busy signals.

The Acela wireless was slow – busy.

The Acela train is totally sold out – busy.

Some furniture I ordered is on backlog. They are busy.

The painters can’t come out. They are busy.

The dentist – he is busy.

I called a friend. He said, “Can’t talk now man. It is really busy.”

Wow. We are all so busy.

NBA Draft – Thanks for the Interest

The NBA draft will be held on Thursday.

There is lots of speculation and theories and of course fan comments on the order of players to be picked in the draft and what Ernie will do with our picks. See this article and comments within. I have received many emails as well from fans asking my opinion and requesting to know who we will pick.

Here is what I can tell you.

I don’t know who we will pick.

It all depends on who is picked before we get to our draft position or if trades are made before us. Or by us. And it is all up to Ernie and his staff.

I don’t make the picks. I haven’t done the scouting and I am NOT a professional in this regard. I believe in our scouts and in our front office and know they have been working hard and have seen – countless times – most of the top prospects.
