Joint Base Andrews – A Day In The Life

I was invited to spend the day at Joint Base Andrews yesterday. I was honored to be asked and was happy to help. Here is a link to their very informative web site.

I was a guest speaker to a leadership class at the base. Had a chance to dine with the commander of the base and several service men and woman to discuss new media and leadership. I saw Air Force One; and then was able to take a comprehensive tour via helicopter of the base and all of DC. We even had the opportunity to fly over Verizon Center and Georgetown University. What a view!

There are almost 15,000 people that work on the base. These are very hard working, dedicated and talented people. All serving our country. All focused on our safety and security.

The base is called joint because it is shared by the Air Force and the Army.

This is the base that keeps the skies over DC patrolled and safe. And they support the government agencies with air travel; and it is the first stop in the United States for our Wounded Warriors returning from battle fields all over the world.

I was so impressed by the level of competence, dedication, talent and drive to serve that I saw throughout the day. I certainly will sleep easier at night knowing we have the best and the brightest stationed right here in Maryland at Andrews.

I am also pleased to say that there sure are a lot of Capitals, Wizards and Mystics fans on the base. The folks sure show their pride in the best way possible; everyone was cheerful; everyone wished us well for our next seasons.

Thank you to everyone who made my day so special. I am so impressed. I enjoyed the Q and A sessions and meeting so many of you one on one; and want you all to know that my flight was an experience and a memory that will last a life time. Thank you.

Everything Old Is New Again

The Facebook messaging service aside the Facebook homepage reminds me of AOL circa 1994. Home page and Buddy List aside one another.

Content – community – communications – presence; all integrated.

Facebook messaging now looks like AIM to me, buddy lists with real time one click messaging opportunities embedded right next to content.Well done! I have my AOL client software open right now. Looks very similar to me.

Out with the old- in with the new. Recycle the old. Do it better and call it new.

What is next? “Welcome…you’ve got friends?”

Comics

Still relevant as ever.

Still embedding images into young men’s minds.

Check out Comics Alliance here and see the great film about Alan Moore. Who is he?  He will blow your mind!

A very interesting case history on a true artist. Very popular and very influential in the comic book landscape. It might not be sharks but it is compelling theatre.

Hockey Is For Everyone

We really care about all of our fans.

We want to embrace fans in Baltimore again. We want to gain some new fans by playing a pre season game in Baltimore. We are promoting more via the web and promos on radio and we are hopeful that the Baltimore newspapers will cover our team as one of their own.

We also intend to help as much as we can generate interest in the sport. Here is a nice story in the Baltimore Sun about street hockey and all of the work we are doing together with the Baltimore City Council President. We are quite grateful and we are here to serve.

Thank you. Click here to read this one. Go Caps! Go kids!

Summer Reading List

Books I have started to read. Here is my list:

“Onward”, How Starbucks fought for its life without losing its soul by Howard Schultz;

“Tell to Win”, The hidden power of story, by Peter Guber;

“The Next Wave”, Using digital technology to further social and political innovation, by Darrell West.

No television viewing for me. Just documentaries and geeky books. Enjoy. Thanks.
