Training Camp for Washington Wizards

It does appear that the Washington Wizards will conduct training camp at Verizon Center once the season is official and not at George Mason University’s Patriot Center.

The Patriot Center is fully booked now with its own men’s and woman’s basketball activities and other events during this time frame (December 9th on) – and hence – to consolidate our activities – and keep the action close to home – we will use our own facilities at Verizon Center for this shortened training camp. I wouldn’t characterize this as “musical chairs” – but be that as it may; camp will be held at Verizon Center and I am hopeful that in future seasons we will move back to Patriot Center for training camp. Thank you for understanding the issues around scheduling on such short notice.

Setting the record straight in this article. Please note that I do not own the Patriot Center. It is owned by George Mason University. Our partnership manages Patriot Center under a management contract.

Thank you.

Quiet Period over for Groupon

The company has been in a “quiet period” for a long time; and even though we went public via an IPO – we couldn’t talk about the company. We were in what is called “registration”, and then you can’t talk about the company for about a month after you go public. Of course – anyone else could talk all they wanted about the company.

Here is a blog post from co-founder and CEO of Groupon Andrew Mason. In it – he does offer a glimpse of how the holiday season has kicked off. I won’t add any value to these words and numbers; what do you think of them?

It feels good to be transparent and talk or at least point to Andrew’s blog again. Thank you.

Glad to Get That Game Past Us

Thank you for welcoming Dale Hunter so warmly back to DC.

He has a lot of hard work ahead of him.

We added a new defensive coach last night to the team as well see release here. The team must adjust now to a new evolving system – a new voice – a new mind set. Change is all around.

We played a little tentative but better last evening; we took one baby step towards being a better defensive team.

You know we are in a tough spot emotionally when we crow about NOT letting up any 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 breakaways.

We have hit the reset button.

We have a day of practice today and then get ready to face the Penguins on Thursday night at home.

See you then and there. Go Caps!

Welcome Dale

Dale Hunter is one of my favorite players to ever wear a Caps uniform – a former captain who was a leader in every sense of the word. He is a hockey man through and through. But more importantly, he is inspirational, smart and hard working. In addition to being one of the most decorated players in our team’s history, Dale has been an extremely successful owner and coach of the London Knights.

When I was younger and thought of the Capitals, I would envision Dale. When he was a player, he tutored many of his teammates, teaching them how to be professionals, how to prepare for a game and how to compete every night. As a player, he simply had an unparalleled mix of talent and toughness that he brought to the rink every night.

Plenty of great coverage and interviews at WashingtonCaps.com.

We welcome Dale back to the Caps and our community. Go Caps!
