OH COME ON!

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter!

This looks too good to be true.

So this is why we have the Lincoln Monument? Why he is revered so much by our historians? Why his face graces the $5 dollar bill?!

He hunted and slayed vampires.

Or is this a metaphor?

Whatever it is it looks cool, hip and funny.

I can just see the conversations between the writers. After a few drinks.

“What are you working on, man?”

“Me? I am out of work and trying to figure out a way to capitalize on this vampire craze. Write a script on spec and see what happens.”

“And you?”

“Trying to do a doc for the History Channel on the American Presidency. Thinking about Lincoln. I believe he was our best President.”

“Been there done that. Hey man, what if Lincoln fought vampires? What if Lincoln was really a slayer of evil? I bet that would sell.”

“Let us mash it up.”

“Yeah. This could be a series. George Washington vs. Aliens; FDR vs. The Mafia; JFK vs. Godzilla.”

“This will be huge.”

“Awesome.”

“Awesome indeed.”

Enjoy these trailers. Laugh out loud and I bet this one is a hit.

Crucible

Pressure comes from within. Sometimes pressure is used as a motivating tool. Sometimes people crack under pressure. I, personally, try to remain calm under pressure. We have so many pressures in our life and times. If we succumb to pressure it is hard to perform well or to perform at all. It is hard to think clearly and it is hard to enjoy the journey.

There was a lot of pressure on our team and key players last night. The spotlight was shining brightly and it was quite hot. We sometimes forget though that there is pressure on the other team, too. When we went down 1-0, I saw our team double down and play even harder.

When Mike Knuble’s goal was disallowed, I didn’t see any panic or deep frustration.

It was great to see Alex Ovechkin crash the net and score the tying goal.

It was great to see Alex Semin wind up and fire and score the game winner.

We got very good goaltending when it mattered.

We get the win but no time to enjoy it.

Now the pressure continues. As noted, we must play 500 hockey on the road but to be assured a spot in the playoffs, it would be better to have a winning percentage in those road games. All focus by our team though is on tonight.

We have about a third of the season left to play – 25 games. We have a game in hand and a 3 games in hand against some teams ahead of us in the standings.

There is a lot of pressure and it will continue to be on us for a long time. I hope we remain calm, steadfast and clear thinking. I also hope the team enjoys this time and this journey it is on.
