Hope to see you all tonight

A really big game for this time of the season.

I am hopeful that we play with intensity and as a team; we are shorthanded – without 3 very talented players – but every team in the NHL suffers injuries this late in the season. We must rise up and play hard and with great emotion.

30 games left in the season – 60 standing points left to fight for – every game and point matters from here on out. Go Caps!

Trading places

Florida goes up a point in the standings; they reclaim the lead in the Southeast; we tumble to 9th place.

A good crisp read here on last night’s game

We have work to do.We get Alex Ovechkin back for the next game on Saturday – against Montreal. We were 1-1 and 1 without Alex during the 3 game suspension. 6 points available; we garnered 3.

Linkage

Lots of it for the Washington Capitals as we move into the meat of the schedule. See it all here. Link after link after link.

Two more games without three of our best players; two back to back against division rivals. Starting tonight.

“Never explain, never complain.”

A very tough road trip. Wish us well; wish us speedy recovery of our injured players. Thank you; Go Caps!

Proud of Caps team last night

As noted yesterday in my blog post and then later to about 300 season ticket holders in a chalk talk session at Verizon Center – even though our team is without Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green and Nick Backstrom; and we are playing the Boston Bruins; we can’t feel sorry for ourselves – we have to hang together and scratch out some wins and some points.

And that is what we did. See video highlights here

Last night’s victory was a great game to watch; we played with fire – with determination and we bonded as a team. We had players step up; thank you Matty! And we got two points and move back into 3rd in the East and first in the SE division

I am proud of the team; the coaches and the staff. I sensed no apprehension going into last night’s game shorthanded. Players stepped up – played with pride and we got the job done. Thank you.

We now have a nice and needed break – enjoy some time off from the daily grind in the NHL schedule. Go Caps!

Hanging together

I do not agree in any way with the suspension of Alex Ovechkin for 3 games. I support Alex Ovechkin. He is our bedrock player – our Captain; and he and his family know that we are always here to support him.

The decision has been made; and George McPhee will address the media today with our thoughts and concerns about the suspension.

While there is a lot of emotion and concern today – we have a game to play tonight against perhaps the best team in the league and we then have 2 games on the road against division foes, after the All Star game.

Tonight – we will play without Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green and Nick Backstrom. These are our three best players and represent a third of our payroll; there is simply no way short term to make up their productivity unless other players step up – and we must be focused on winning and not on being shorthanded. Our team mentality must and will stay positive.

It is possible that the road trip after the All Star game will also see us play without 3 of our core players as well.

So – it is time for us – truly – to hang together – band together – play as a unit- be supportive; scratch out some wins or points in any way that we can.

There are 35 games left to play this season. 70 standings points to be had.

As this article attests – we have to be productive as to gaining points at home – while playing better on the road. This article maps out the road ahead

In times of strife and high emotion; it is best to act with clear thoughts and to stay positive.

Go Caps!

3 of 6 Points on Road Trip

Three games and three points on the road. This is an acceptable pace. Play 500 on the road and play well at home from here on out will help us dramatically in the standings.

Yesterday we played a really intense game and lost in overtime in Pittsburgh. Both teams are short-handed and battled to the end.

I was proud of how the team rallied on the road to get that point.

NBC has got to be happy with the back and forth nature of the game.

See you all on Tuesday night against defending Stanley Cup champs the

Boston Bruins.
