Excellence is good in the NHL and in AHL

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Here is a terrific article about the Washington Capitals and the Hershey Bears.

This systemic excellence was part of our plan and commitment to our fans and was a fundamental plank in our rebuild.

We clinched the SE Division last night. Some of you already have already mocked us for that for which I will never understand your rationale. We understand we have higher goals in mind but winning a division championship is an important first step.

We have won the division now 3 times in a row. It was also a promise to build a consistently great team that can compete for a championship year after year in both the NHL and the AHL. We have been delivering on our promises to you and to our players.

We are grateful for such a great relationship with our friends in Hershey.

We celebrate our win of the division with 15 games left to play.

Go Caps. Go Bears. Thank you fans.

Remarkable Hershey Bears Run

Monday, March 8th, 2010

One more win for Hershey at home will make for 23 straight games which would be an all time pro hockey sports record. The Bears tied the record last night at 22 consecutive home wins. Read this story it is indeed remarkable. Caps are in first place in NHL; Bears are in first place in AHL. Caps have longest winning streak in NHL this year; Bears have it this year in AHL as well.

I guess we are pretty strong organizationally. We are proud but humble. Go Bears!

Crazy Numbers

Monday, February 1st, 2010

We have a wonderful relationship with the Hershey Bears. We believe in them as a franchise. We pay homage to them for helping us to be a success in the NHL.

The Bears and the Caps are on quite a run. We as a combined entity have won 18 games in a row and 30 of the last 31 games. The Bears have won 20 of the last 21 games they have played.  They have won 16 in a row at home.

Both teams lead the division in points. Both teams lead their leagues in goals scored. The Bears are the best franchise right now in the entire AHL. Go Bears. Go Caps.

How is that for a plan coming together?

Twelve in a Row

Monday, January 11th, 2010

The Hershey Bears are winners of twelve games in a row with a record of 29-8-2. They are playing the best they have ever played.

We are so proud of this franchise. We are so proud of how “simpatico” we are with the folks in Hershey. Congratulations to them for the system they run; the expectations they place on their personnel; and how they develop our young talent. Bears. Bears. Bears. Whooooooo! What an awesome season so far. Go Bears!

Hershey Bears Win Calder Cup

Saturday, June 13th, 2009
Last night was quite the night of hockey watching Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals on television while watching the Hershey Bears win the Calder Cup on a laptop.

Can we be any prouder of our AHL partners? No we can’t!

They are helping us to build a culture of excellence and of winning. They are grooming our young players and molding them into champions.  The Hershey Bears are the cream of the crop in the AHL with 10 Calder Cup Trophies in their history! Kudos to Michael Neuvirth for being named Playoff MVP as well.

Two Great Series Continue

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009
The Stanley Cup Finals have been as advertised - with great skill; lots of star power and truly competitive - the best the NHL has to offer.

The two teams that are still competing have set the bar quite high for us to jump over. They are both strong in goal and have strong and mobile D that scores and gets pucks on the net; lots of depth; great strength down the middle; and forwards that back check, crash the net, draw penalties and can score.

This has been a showcase for great hockey and it has been a joy to watch.

Quite a Fun Sports and Entertainment Related Weekend

Monday, June 8th, 2009
The Hershey Bears won twice at home this weekend to take a commanding 3-1 lead in the AHL Calder Cup Finals. One more win and the Cup goes back to Hershey. Go Bears! Way to win on Saturday 3-0 and on Sunday 2-1! The team is getting outstanding playoff goaltending. We are very deep in goalie prospects now. That is such a comforting thought, isn’t it ?

The Bears play again at home trying to close it out on Tuesday. Click here to read about yesterday’s big win.

The Washington Mystics started strong too with a Saturday night win over Connecticut and a big win over Atlanta at home yesterday. We have a lot of depth now; a lot of team speed; and an entire new upbeat and positive attitude. We had a big and enthusiastic crowd yesterday at our season home opener. It was loud and it was appreciative of how we responded to being down big after the first period to coast to an easy win. I am hopeful that our rebuild of the Washington Mystics is as successful as our rebuild of the Washington Capitals. So far so good. Click here to read about the Mystics performance from this weekend. I hope to see you all at a game this season.

Bears Win Game 1 on the Road

Sunday, May 31st, 2009
The Hershey Bears won Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals on the road last night in overtime 5 to 4.

This was an important road win. The schedule format in the Finals is two games on the road, three games at home and then two on the road.

The Manitoba Moose sold out their arena last night for the game with more than 15,000 fans in attendance. This is AHL hockey at its best and we are very proud of our Hershey Bears.

Good Signs

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Our AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, closed out their series last night with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with a 3-0 win in their Game 7. The Bears now move on to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Bears won their first two games of the series; then lost three; won one to tie it up; and won the series in Game 7 at home.

Here is hoping we are a mirror image of the Bears. We are very proud of the team and its staff and players. We have many fine developing prospects on the team and we also have another great goaltending prospect in Hershey who pitched a shut out in a very tense situation last night. We have a perfect partnership with Hershey. Kudos to them and congratulations to their great fan base as well. We were all with you in spirit last night in Hershey and I listened to the game on my desktop PC. Way to go! Go Bears!

Hershey as Inspiration?

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Kudos to the Hershey Bears who were down 3-2 in their series with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Hershey won last night to even the series at 3-3 and force a Game 7.

Game 7 will be played on home ice at Giant Center in Hershey on Tuesday night.

If they can do it, we can too! That is how we need to approach tonight’s game - with confidence and with focus on just the game at hand.

And by the way, both teams here are true warriors having played 4 games in 5 nights. We are truly spoiled in the NHL with our scheduling in comparison.

Wish us well. Send those good vibes our way. We hope to see you all on Wednesday night at Verizon Center. Go Caps! Go Bears!
