Sorry About That

Atlanta is a much improved team; it is playing with a lot of confidence.

We seem to be a bit out of sync– and although the last two games we have taken more than 80 shots on goal; we only have 2 goals to show for it. We were 0 for 5 on the power play last night– Atlanta scored on their power play opportunity in the third period and that was that.

Hence– we are 0 and 2  last two games. Continue reading

5 to 0 – Not Much More to Add

A bad game.

Down 3-0 in less than 10 minutes. Down 3-0 after 5 shots on goal.

It happens. No use crying over spilled milk. We get zero standing points. Atlanta gets 2 points. Good for them and bad for us.

We have injuries mounting. Back-to-back games in the schedule are tough to recover from and for. We play a tough and more rested Flyers team tonight at home.We play a desperate Devils team on the road on Monday.

A tough stretch of games.

Wish us a speedy recovery and good health.

We remain in first place in the NHL after 20 games but it doesn’t feel good to lose, does it?

Shaken

Like most of you, I watched our game on television last night.

I am sorry we didn’t play inspired and well and that we lost. I hope we perform better this evening.

I must admit that my entire family was truly shaken when we saw the incident to the goaltender for Atlanta.

We have great empathy. We put ourselves in the shoes of Atlanta ownership. We just felt so sad and so concerned. We are happy to hear that Pavelec is recovering in a local hospital but that twenty minutes of not knowing was truly an awful feeling for everyone associated with the game.

Are You Not Entertained?

You betcha! Check out these ratings and what it translates into in terms of people.

The Caps vs. Pens draws big and even the Caps vs. Thrashers draws big time, too. We are crossing over into popular culture now. The tent is getting bigger. It is nice and warm inside. Come on in and enjoy during these trying snowy times. Go Caps!

I Have Been There

The Capitals have been blown out by teams by big scores in the past. It isn’t fun at all. We won last night 8-1 and we get the two points on the road.

We can score a lot of goals with our offense, which at present, is the best in the NHL. We didn’t try to run up the score last night in any manner. We just played the full 60 minutes and our shots were going in.

The game was a good way to start a three game road trip against division opponents. We play Atlanta three more times all at home. We will have to be ready. No team likes being beat 8 to 1. We will have to be ready when we play the Flyers at home next as well. We beat them last time 8 to 2.

A win is a win but I would rather beat teams 2 to 1 than 8 to 1.

We Are Everywhere

So I am in Chicago for a set of board meetings. My meetings end at 6:00 pm central time last night. I dash to the ESPN Zone in downtown Chicago. I meet with a manager and convince him to put on the Caps vs. Thrashers game. I eat a burger. I get to watch a sloppy and ugly game with a beautiful ending in that we gain two standing points in the division on the road.

While I am watching the game, a business executive comes into the bar area and he is really into the game. He is cheering for the Caps. In between periods, I go over and introduce myself. His name is Jonathan Duke. He is from Sterling, VA. He is on a business trip and he wants to see “his favorite team” play.

How cool is that? We chat, take a photo together and watch the end of the game.

Go Caps! Rock the Red – everywhere.
