Mighty Have Fallen

I can’t believe that BusinessWeek magazine just sold for $ 2 to $ 3 million in cash. That is what we pay some of our forwards on our hockey team!

BW is one of the most respected publications of our era. It is considered one of the bibles of business. It was one of the first publications I subscribed to as a young college grad.

I knew the long time CEO of McGraw Hill. In fact, he has a home and is a neighbor of mine down in Vero Beach, Florida.

My head is spinning, $2 to $5 million? What does this say about the print magazine business? An Icon like BW sells for what we pay Alex Semin. Wow.

KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid

Here is a great article on web design and user interface.

It is ironic that in a high speed broadband world, the best properties have a dial-up simple look and feel. Think about it. Google, Wikipedia et al. have a look of an interface straight from 1995 - no graphics, no video, no Flash - just utility, grace and ease of use.

Utility always wins over style. Never try to trick a consumer to generate fake page views. Keep navigation simple. Everything should be easy to find and one click away. Live and learn. Good article here from BusinessWeek.
