About last night

I thought our team played well; as a very young team; we haven’t yet earned the respect of the league’s officials.

We scored more field goals that the Bulls – but the reigning MVP took more foul shots than our entire team did last night. The Bulls made 24 of 31 foul shots and we made 11 of 13; there is the ball game right there as we lost by 10 points.

The Wizards have played one of the top 10 toughest schedules so far this season; we are being tested in many ways and I was happy to see our players rally and play desperate defense during the 4th quarter as we outscored Chicago by 7 points. We made less turn overs than the Bulls; but they had 22 assists; we only had 8. They have played together as a team for many years now.

We are making progress.

In regards to the big crowd last night – as I noted earlier in the year – we will average about 15,000 attendance per game with our fans; we have 8000 season ticket holders.

When we play a big time team as Chicago is – some of our fans will resell their tickets at a profit – and the other team’s fans will buy some tickets at the gate as well via single ticket sales.

So – I estimate that we sold perhaps 4000 tickets to local people who grew up in Chicago – and that some of our fans sold their season tix to generate a profit. Our crowd was a big one – more than 18,500 last night.

It was a good game – a good atmosphere – very competitive. Onward. Thank you.

Just Saying…

To the folks that have sent me emails about the new NBA with a logic train as thus:

“In the new NBA you can’t draft your way to success – only big time free agency works.”

The Chicago Bulls have swept their season series against the Miami Heat. The three core players – Rose, Deng and Noah – all played huge rolls in yesterday’s victory. All three were drafted and developed by the Bulls.

In an ironic twist the Bulls traded us Kirk Hinrich and cash and a first round pick that we used to draft Kevin Seraphin.

They made the trade to clear cap space to go after big time free agents. They weren’t successful in their initial efforts but did land Carlos Boozer in free agency.

We then traded Hinrich to Atlanta for a first round pick in next years draft and Jordon Crawford, Atlanta’s first round pick last off season, and Mike Bibby, who we then bought out to reclaim our salary cap space and to allow the player to go to Miami. He played in yesterday’s game.

So Chicago’s efforts to land a big time free agent helped us land cap space, two first round draft picks – one which we used for Seraphin and one that will be used next off season – and Jordan Crawford plus cash.

And Chicago may be the best team in the East. Go figure, huh? No one knows nothing.

A Fun Night – A Good Win

Last night was a fun night at Verizon Center.

Our President was in attendance and the Wizards performed well to beat his hometown Chicago Bulls.

I thought the fans were all respectful and gracious. It was great to see the President out amongst the fans too.

Congratulations to Mr.  and Mrs. Pollin for hosting the President in their box as well. It was a good game and a night of memories.
