John Chambers and Me

It is a small world to be mentioned in the same breath here as the great John Chambers, longtime CEO of Cisco. Read this and laugh.

Not many people will know this odd fact but John and I once worked together back in the 70′s at a company called Wang Laboratories. I started in the call center answering technical requests from customers and John was a sales executive selling word processing systems. It was my first job out of college. Two Wang Labs alumni make good!

New Next Big Thing

The smart grid is something you will be hearing a lot about — as it will benefit consumers; help make America more competitive — allow  for a re-purposing of government dollars into infrastructure  and create new growth markets for big companies such as Cisco and GE — see enclosed article — and for new companies — such as Gridpoint.

Even Google will try to get into the act.  This market will be huge — estimated at more than $ 100 billion — The Obama Administration will embrace it as a way to invest and save our infrastructure — be green and get back lost competitive advantage as our power plant system is old and decrepit — and here come the annual summer brown outs, soon to a home near you!

Gridpoint is a local Northern Virginia based company — it was first in class — has early mover advantage  and is very well positioned to be a big player in this nascent field — I am proud to be an early supporter and an investor in this company.  It was founded by a fellow Georgetown University graduate and employs some of the best and the brightest in our community.

Watch this space — it will be an important one.
