NOW I Understand Why the President Won’t Come to a Game :-)
He must have asked our Vice President or “Sam” here for advice and they told him, “Don’t go to any place that is confined like an arena or take Metro to the game or shake anyone’s hands.”
This is why I mostly disrespect authority. I will do the exact opposite of what our VP says. I will be at all of our games. I encourage people to take the Metro and I will shake about a thousand hands at the arena. I will breathe in all of the excitement; share in the aura; and bask in our humanity together.
Final Attendance Numbers – Wow!
The Washington Capitals finished 10th in the NHL in paid attendance this year. Only Detroit, Minnesota, Philadelphia and Buffalo sold more tickets than we did in the United States. Who said Washington wasn’t a town that was in love with hockey and its team?
We sold more tickets than even Edmonton in Canada and we sold more tickets than the New York Rangers as an example.
However, we finished 20th in the NHL in ticketing revenues due to our very reasonable ticket pricing policy. We wish to thank all of our fans who bought tickets this year. You all rock! Thank you so much.
Are You Ready?
Are you ready for Game 7 NHL playoff action tonight? I am. If you are ready, let me know. Tell me now. Post away and spread your good cheer, positive intentions and good karma – now – more than ever!
It is the most exciting time in sports, a Game 7 of a NHL playoff series. And hockey fans in general get two Game 7′s tonight as the Capitals play the Rangers and the Devils play the Hurricanes. A true competitive feast.
Geography is Destiny
Here is a brilliant and insightful article about how the crash will alter power centers around the world.
My conclusion: DC has become a mash-up. We weave together money; power; politics; and now celebrity and glamour.
Our real estate market is strong and retail is doing OK. The Capitals are performing quite well at the right time in the right place.
This is the hippest, smartest and most alive and dynamic city in the country right now…perhaps the world. Thank our lucky stars that we are situated here in DC.
I Have Better Hair and Better Hearing than Dan
Read this blog post and find out why.
Thanks for the propaganda. We are earning it and appreciate it. And everyone should know that Dan is a vegetarian. He didn’t eat a hot dog with us but I could tell he wanted one!
Other Than That, Did You Enjoy the Play Mrs. Lincoln? :-)
2008 was a great year. It was a year of progress and change and growth and promise.
Yikes. I can’t believe I am typing those words.
For the Washington Capitals and our fans, we just finished a remarkable 12 month span, a span in which we were 52-23-6 and for the third best record in the NHL. We made the playoffs last season after a remarkable run. We won the Southeast Division crown too. We are now up 12 points in this year’s race as well in the division.
This season, for the first three months of play, we have the second best record in team history.
We have the reigning all world player on our team in Alex Ovechkin. He is second in the NHL in scoring this season as well. He won every award last season.
And this season, we are playing astonishingly well in spite of a rash of – no – a crazy amount of injuries. Who knows how good we can really be when healthy?
We have also shown the world that DC is a hockey town. We have a great and passionate fan base. Business is booming. The community has embraced this team even in a very tough and gloomy economic environment. So thank you Caps fans everywhere!
Here is to a healthy and happy 2009 Caps fans. I am hopeful I can say, ”You ain’t seen nothing yet!” Happy New Year!
Quote of the Day
Everyone in DC wants to go to Hollywood.
Everyone in Hollywood wants to go to DC.
What gives?
Thank You Abe
I agree. Kudos to Mr. Pollin. Remember, he brought the team to DC and started the city’s love affair with hockey a long, long time ago.
