We Will Always Be Free, MTV

Here is an interesting blog post musing about the pending trend of charging for content on the web.

Many sites will begin to charge for movies and video content. The MTV movie blog is rightfully concerned about this trend.

It mentions SnagFilms and Funny or Die as two sites that they are concerned may start to charge consumers.

I have said it before and will say it again; SnagFilms will always be free to consumers. Our filmmakers want their films to be seen far and wide and they want to help charities in the same breath. Our goal is to liberate documentaries and good work films to the largest possible audience.

We may – in the future - innovate in some types of paid download to own services or offer DVD versions of the films but our streaming basic services will ALWAYS be free. Enjoy SnagFilms.com, the best value on the Internet today. And chill MTV. Don’t fret. Enjoy and be happy.

Video Gamers Unite in “Second Skin”

Here it is - the great film Second Skin about video gamers and the worlds they inhabit.

It is a very thoughtful documentary about virtual worlds and how people live in both the cyber world and the real world. Fifty million people out there participate passionately. Learn why here. Click away this weekend. If you like the film, grab it and embed it on your site or blog too.

I am linking to the Hulu page that has an interview with the director of this film as well. SnagFilms’ relationship with Hulu is first rate and one of our films has been #1 in views on this great site week after week. SnagFilms’ library can be found in IMDB; in Comcast Fancast; on Hulu; on YouTube; and on more than 260,000 sites all over the web. This film makes great weekend viewing. Gamers should check it out. It is a well made film.

Beyond the Multiplex

Here is Salon with an in-depth piece on next generation film distribution. Click here to read it.

It really touches all of the bases and mentions all of the players in the industry.

Digital distribution of films is really picking up steam. It is amazing to me how well we have positioned SnagFilms. It is mentioned within alongside YouTube, Netflix and Hulu and we are yet to celebrate our first anniversary.
