Kindle Fire and SnagFilms

I got a Kindle Fire as a Christmas gift (sorry in advance for being politically incorrect); and have been playing with it; I find it to be a great value for the dollar; and I bet Amazon will sell them like hot cakes.

The screen quality is really great – and video viewing is spectacular on it. It is like a portable TV in some apps; and our own SnagFilms app works great on it. I have been watching films for free on the Fire and it works as well as my iPad in this setting.

If you have a Kindle Fire – go check out the SnagFilms app. Thank you.

And here is a cool film from SnagFilms called “ManChild”; a great coming of age film for you to enjoy!

Here Is The List

Of all devices and all platforms that SnagFilms is now available on. Very impressive!

We have made great progress – from being a web site – available on desktop computers; and having widgets for virtual movie theatres on blogs and networked websites; to moving to the iPad; to now becoming a part of the interactive television eco system – with free streaming and PPV offerings; and now even bringing films into movie theatres as part of our distribution eco systems.

SnagFilms and indieWIRE are poised to become the leading destination and platform and firm to distribute documentary and independent films on a global basis.

We seek an “available everywhere” strategy and we are building a huge library – now more than 3000 films deep.

I believe that 2012 is the year that SnagFilms becomes a scalable business and a true partner to film makers everywhere.

I also believe that we are providing consumers with the best – FREE streaming video offerings on the web today.

White Stripes

Great band.

Great sound.

Mega talent.

Driven.

Mysterious.

A wonderful documentary about their life and times.Rock on! Watch this weekend – for free – on SnagFilms.com.

As an aside, I have Apple TV in my new home. SnagFilms is one of the most popular apps now on Apple Airplay. We have the most free films available and we integrate in iPads and on your television and computer or game console.

Witness the future. I am very proud to be involved with a company that is leading the mash up of devices, wireless, streaming and video. Go SnagFilms! Go White Stripes!

Scares Me a Bit

THIS is the kind of data and charts I saw in 1996 that started to drive the first Internet bubble! Doesn’t it look familiar? I think WorldCom back in the day published these kinds of charts.

Internet traffic as proxy for success.

Three billion users.

Smaller and smaller stuff to use.

I am a believer. These numbers might even be conservative but I am hopeful I don’t see them again and again and again as justification of an investment thesis or as a starting point in presentations at conferences. Stated as truth and fact!

Today I heard from someone I respect very much that he thought there would be 5 billion literate human beings on the planet and that 1 billion of them would learn how to read their first words on a tablet a la the iPad in less than 10 years! Mind numbing…

Happy Anniversary Apple Store

Ten years ago.

The first store in the 300 store chain opened here in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

I remember walking in that first weekend pre-iPod and pre-iPad thinking “really – will this work?”

Wow – was I wrong! And now I go to the Apple Store in Tysons or in Georgetown or Bethesda with regularity.

Here is a demo of the store from May of 2001 with Steve Jobs. An amazing run!
