More Empathy for Wounded Warriors

I had some surgery on my left arm and hand yesterday. I am in a sling with my entire left arm imobilized. It aches a lot and it is unusable. I can’t sleep well; it is hard to shower, to open jars, to shaveand  I cant drive. I type with one finger of my right hand. I have to take some pain medication that makes me groggy. I have to ice my arm and hand every 30 minutes. I am cranky to boot.

I will never say in aspiration, “I will give my left arm for that” ever again.

I feel helpless.

I am so aware of my arm and hand. I have taken this appendage for granted.

I cant imagine what it would feel like to lose an arm or a hand on a permanent basis. My thoughts are with our Wounded Warriors.

My admiration for my friend Kyle Maynard has increased many fold as he was born without arms and legs. He is such a brave and pragmatic young man!

This blog post took me 5 minutes to construct. Not the usual 60 seconds.

We take health for granted; we take all the little mundane things we do every moment for granted.

This is a wake up call for me.

What We Were Looking For…

A viewer and fan of SnagFilms spoke to me yesterday and told me how moved she was about our film A Fighting Chance.

She said ”Sometimes little day-to-day things get me down and I get depressed. I watched your film and I must admit that Kyle Maynard was so positive and so on-the-go and so genuine - it was uplifting. I promise that whenever little things get me down from here on out I will flash back to the film and to Kyle’s ‘No Excuses’ mantra. Thank you.”

Isn’t that terrific?

Watch this weekend if you haven’t had a chance. Kyle is a one-of-a-kind human being. I consider him a friend and an inspiration. He is a true American hero. Thank you ESPN for helping us and supporting us with this film. Kyle is one of our great athletes and “No Excuses” should become the mantra for all of our teams!
