Others’ Views

In talking with some folks in NYC, they think the Caps are:

  • Having a great season and are “scary good”; it is why we have such a good record
  • That we are a high scoring team
  • That we have improved defense schemes
  • That our penalty kill has improved
  • That our goaltending is much improved
  • That Alex Ovechkin is having a great and more balanced season of play
  • That we have more balance in our line up now; we are tougher to play against; and the coach has more weapons and line ups to mix and match.

Isn’t that funny?

One pundit pointed to our two wins this weekend against the best of the East in Boston and Philadelphia as proof points of progress and our record as being tied for most points in the NHL .

But then again, there is this locally in DC.

We get “the joke.”

Expectations are high. People are not satisfied – deservedly so. Angst away but try just a little bit to enjoy the ride.

We play a big game in NYC tonight so wish us well. Madison Square Garden is always a tough place to play.

Alex loves playing under the bright lights of NYC and he loves playing in front of the loud crowd at Madison Square Garden.

My belief is that he will want to play tonight and if he does, it will provide us with a terrific morale and performance boost. He has been out for 17 days. It will be fun to see him hit the ice and basically inhale everything around him. He will be focused and ready to go. He loves the game and his teammates so much!

Read Mike Vogel’s article. We feel so blessed to read where the two-time defending MVP of the NHL says - in regards to new line changes and schemas because of injuries on our team - ”I don’t care where I play. If the team needs me down low, I am going down low.”

That kind of team-oriented attitude and selflessness is what separates Alex from many other great players. He is all about team. He is coachable still. He respects the game. He is a winner.

I hope to say tonight, “Welcome back Alex! We missed you. Go have some fun out there. Go Caps!”

“It was Like a Road Game”

Wow. It happens even in NYC.

Kobe dropped 61 on the Knicks last night. Check out this blog post from the NY Post and the Knick’s coach’s comments.

I remember the game that Michael Jordan returned to Madison Square Garden and scored the double nickel, 55 points, in his second game back from one of his retirements.

Last night’s game was historic - 61 without an asterisk – all done in less than 40 minutes to boot.
