As mentioned yesterday…

When we get good goal tending; which we did;

And we play well on special teams; which we did;

And we score on the power play – which we did;

And we get scoring from the core group – Ovechkin, Semin and Backstrom; which we did.

We win games. We get two points.

I liked the new lines – I thought it spread out the scoring opportunities well.

I also liked the fore check and the aggressive play by us. Lots of energy!

A good home win. Another sell out as well; I am eternally grateful to you all.

Congratulations to Mike Knuble for playing in his 1000th NHL game. We are proud of you. It was a sweet family moment to watch.

Go Caps!

Grown Up Remarks by Mike Knuble

Mike Knuble is a great leader. A wonderful player and one of my favorite people; he plays the game the right way. He thinks the game well; he appreciates all the game has done for him; he has become a pillar in our community. He is a man’s man and a straight forward player. He has clarity of thought and knows what is important.

I thought his remarks about this week’s media buzz – positive and negative about our franchise, were right on the money.

Nuff ‘said. Read this one if you are interested, thank you.

Congressional Hockey Game Open to Public

We are proud to help support the 3rd Annual Congressional Hockey Challenge charity hockey game Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at Verizon Center. The first such congressional game was held at Kettler Capitals Iceplex, but the event has now moved downtown to the arena. Mike Knuble will drop the ceremonial first puck and there is a suggested $10 donation at the door. All proceeds to go Fort Dupont Ice Hockey Club and Arena.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, Hockey Hall of Famer Pat LaFontaine and NHL alumni Kevin Weekes and Willie O’Ree, who broke the league’s color barrier, are all scheduled to be there. Pat has done a tremendous job for the NHL and the sport. He’s a true ambassador of the game. (I just wish he would have missed the net that unforgettable 1987 Easter Sunday.) But he was a great player and a true gentleman and I look forward to seeing him and hopefully many of you tomorrow night. Click here for more info.

Hockey Folks

I met Mike Knuble and his wife the other day at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. He is a very nice man; a family man; a true veteran presence; and a big strong guy. He looks like a hockey player and he talks like a hockey player. He will be a welcomed addition to our team and our community. We have offered to help his family assimilate well into our community and we are here to serve him and his wife.

Almost all of the players in the NHL are truly great people. They understand the ultimate goal we all share – to win a Stanley Cup. They are all about team; team dynamics; and a healthy respect for their coach and the fan base. These folks are modest, focused, mature and love the game.

Nice Words About Knuble Signing

Click here for a nice article about our signing of Mike Knuble.

In our war room under “Want to Sign”, Knuble is the first name on a list of five players so I guess our staff prepared well. He wanted to play here and “we got our man” so praise be and a job well done.

Onward to a continuous upgrade and improvement for our team all within our budget and within our strategy framework. Go Caps!

As Promised

We made a good and smart free agent signing today by signing Mike Knuble to a two year deal. We believe Mike helps us up front; is a big go-to-the-net kind of forward; will serve as a good mentor to our young forwards; is priced right; and is a very good player and a good influence in the locker room. Click here to see the news release.

We are happy with the signing which fits our strategy, budget and timeline.

I doubt we will do any more in free agency. Time will tell.
