Doing to Others What Others Do to You

A nice 2-0 win last night in Montreal.

A day after we lost 2-0 in Ottawa.

We certainly have learned how to clog up that neutral zone; block shots; and play in tight games. When we get good goaltending – which is quite often now – we seem to be in every game.

Strong penalty killing; staying out of the box; great goaltending; and disciplined team defense.

Is that the Washington Capitals we are talking about? Why yes it is. Haters go and hate! :-) We have 98 points.

Six games left in this grind it out of a season.

A successful road trip ended and two weeks away from home. We were very productive. I am happy and proud. Enjoy a few days off. See you all on Tuesday at Verizon Center. Go Caps!

Wacky Game But Two Points is Two Points

That was a weird yet wonderful game last night in Montreal.

We scored an odd goal to open the game and Montreal responded in kind.We scored a goal that was taken away from us in Montreal via Toronto but we just shrugged it off.

The ice and the boards seemed to be tweaked last night. Players were falling and pucks were bouncing. It was a game of pinball out there.

We get the two points. We won our 9th in a row. We suffered more injuries during the game.

We were missing our top 2 centers so our next top 2 centers stepped up and scored three goals between them.

Two vets iced the game with a great play to score our 4th goal. Well played.

Our latest rookie goaltender won his 6th game in a row.

As of right now, we are 3rd in the NHL in points with 92.

We play Detroit tonight in Detroit. They have 90 points and are two points behind us. They will be rested and cranked up to play us. Should be a fun game to watch. Go Caps!

We received a bunch of renewals yesterday and we are now at 86%. As predicted we will break – I believe – the 95% barrier on renewals soon. Please renew on time this year.

Both Teams Belong

You are what your playoff record says you are.

I wish we were still playing.

The Flyers and Canadiens may have had the lowest seeds in the regular season to qualify to play in the playoffs but who wouldn’t trade places with them?

The Canadiens beat us and beat Pittsburgh.

The Flyers came back from a 3 to 0 series deficit against the Bruins. They came back from a 3-0 lead by Boston in game 7 on the road to win the series. That is historic.

Both teams are deserving. Anything can and will happen in the playoffs.

This will be a great series. In the West, things went pretty much according to plan with the Sharks playing the Blackhawks. This season in the East anything can happen and it did. Kudos to both teams.

No Need To Comment

No need to respond.

Take the high road.

Play the games.

Respect the process.

Shy away from controversy now. It is the playoffs.

Focus on the task at hand.

Worry about our team and players not the other team and its players.

Make no comments that provide bulletin board fodder. Focus. Pay attention to details. Less talk. More action.

Chill.

OK, OK – We Get It :-)

Two points garnered is no longer good enough in a game. First place in the East is not good enough. Second most points in the NHL is not good enough.

We need to win the Stanley Cup like right now. Tonight. Sweep all 16 games. Right now. Until you do, you are a bum.

And we need to be undefeated in the regular season to boot.

I appreciated getting some of your emails at 9:30ish last night saying how we lost to Montreal and we aren’t a very good team. We are lazy. We have no heart. Thank you. A very courageous game analysis.

However, I am proud of the way the team rallied last night on the road. I am proud that we tied the game after having a 2-0 lead. I am proud that we won in the shootout and we get two points. Did you know that the Capitals have the least amount of regulation losses this season to date in the entire NHL? We have only lost five games in regulation. Imagine if we could win a few more shootouts or games in OT?

It was Thanksgiving weekend. We played two games and we get four points. We are still banged up as a team and it shows. But we are fighting through it.

I have perspective. We got every point available to us this weekend. Lots of players are chipping in and we are getting wonderful goaltending.

I am grateful. All we can do is get the points made available.

This honestly isn’t the Olympics. You don’t get style points. You are what your record says you are. Yes – we can play better. Yes - we aren’t a great team, yet. Yes - we aren’t playing playoff like hockey. We get it. We honestly do.

But have a little perspective. We won on the road. Try to enjoy the ride. And next time you want to send an email rant, at least wait until the game has ended. :-)  Too funny. Have some faith. Thank you. Go Caps!

Who Saw a Shutout Coming Last Night?

With all of our injuries, did anyone see us winning 3-0 over a very talented and very good Montreal team?

We are a very good team at home. In fact, we haven’t lost yet in regulation and we play with a lot of heart and a lot of pride. This was a very satisfying win. I am proud of the team; the coaching staff; and of all the players who bonded in adversity and got us the two points. Well done.
