Great Game – Tough Loss

Muttering to myself.

I thought that was a terrific game. A game with great goal tending; and terrific over all play.

We had a lot of shots on goal and Nashville’s goal tender played really well as did our goal tender.

When we went up 1 to 0 with 4;00 minutes left – I said to myself – ” Wow – a great start to a road trip; what a hard fought defensive battle and what a shame that both teams don’t get a point here”.

Whoops. 30 seconds later the game was tied.

Arrghh. “Ok, happy now – both teams get a point? “Wasn’t that play offside – what happened ?”

And then.

Oh no – “I can’t believe we are down now 2 to 1 with 25 seconds left – what happened to Erskine’s stick”.

Game ends 3 to 1; empty net goal.

I say to myself,”Geesh; what a terrible start to a tough, week long road trip”.

Things can change in a flash in the NHL.

That was a very high paced game – we played well for 56 minutes; we didn’t get a point – we didn’t get a win. We lost. Period.

Time to regroup.

We must play 60 minutes of hockey – Go Caps!

Sorry About That

We can’t win them all. We didn’t play well on Sunday. We finish the pre-season group of games at 5-1. We had a productive pre-season and we remain relatively healthy, which is important to us all.

The coaches and general manager now focus on who makes the team for this coming weekend’s set of games.

Who stays? Who goes home? Who will be brought up and sent down from Hershey?

We then practice hard all week and head to Atlanta on Thursday for Game 1 on Friday and then our first home game on Saturday night against the always tough New Jersey Devils.

It has been a quick camp and pre-season. We are ready as a team to drop the puck. Wish us good health and good luck. Go Caps!

Playoff-like Game Win

That was a big game and a big win for us on the road against a desperate team.

Winning 2-1 in OT is how playoff games feel and are played with tight checking; strong D play; and lots of intensity and checking.
We didn’t get frustrated. We played secure and safe hockey. We let our skill players shine; took many shots on goal; and played the forecheck system well. It reminded me of Caps hockey from last season’s push to the playoffs.

I am pleased with the two points and the team’s togetherness. Onward to Philly.
