Proud Hoya

Read this article please. It talks about the Georgetown Sports Industry Management program.

The University has a thriving practice here now for undergrads and at the graduate level. It is lead by a former executive at the Washington Capitals, Matt Winkler. It is staffed by former leaders of AOL such as Jimmy Lynn and many of our employees at the Caps, Wizards and Mystics teach here. I guest lecture at the school two to three times per semester. We hire interns by the boatload from this program at our teams.

I am on the board of Georgetown. Paul Tagliabue, former NFL Commissioner, is our Chairman of the Board at Georgetown.

There are several Georgetown alumni that own teams in professional sports or that are leaders in the sports marketing industry and in media that cover professional and NCAA sports.

Georgetown is considered the host of the NCAA Regional games here in DC that are playing at Verizon Center, a building that I own. As an aside, I attended several of the games yesterday. I also met with the President of the NCAA. What a wonderful experience and a great weekend for our city. The students all gather right outside my window at the arena. The bagpipes are playing; the students are chanting; the sun is shining; and all is right in the world.

Georgetown plays tonight in Chicago. Wish them well.

Georgetown, for a small liberal arts and research based school, plays a mighty big role in sports and sports education. I am proud. Hoya Saxa.

Onward to Big East Tournament

A tough home loss on Senior Day for Georgetown.

What a sad way to end the regular season with a loss against Syracuse.

Onward to the Big East tournament in NYC in March.

President Clinton was at the game which was nice.

What a week at Verizon Center – Lady Gaga; Caps game; Georgetown game; Wizards game; and the Bon Jovi concert. Almost 100,000 turnstile clicks in 4 days.

The Georgetown Men’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start. This is good for the University. Two good wins against two good teams.

Georgetown beat a tough Tulane team last night at Verizon Center 69-53.

The team’s guard play has been very good the first two games. Austin Freeman is a very talented player as is Chris Wright. They form a very efficient and strong back court perhaps one of the best in the land.

I am hopeful the team has a strong start before it enters a very tough Big East schedule. Hoya Saxa.

Proud to be a Hoya

A bunch of us at the Caps offices today watched the Big East Tournament game between Georgetown and Syracuse. We have graduates from both schools that work for our teams. Georgetown won 91 to 84.

This was a big win for Georgetown in NYC over a really great Syracuse squad.

Georgetown moves on and no doubt improves its ranking and its seeding in the big dance come later in March.

I think the Big East is the best conference in men’s basketball and the conference could have 7 or 8 teams qualify for the tournament. I am proud to be a Hoya… Hoya Saxa.

Hoya Saxa – A Big Win Over Memphis

It was a big win on national TV for the Georgetown Hoyas. We got a small measure of revenge over a very talented team in Memphis who beat us badly last season and I think we are proving that the team has reloaded and is deep and talented and ready for a national spotlight once again this year.

As an alum and Board Member, it makes us all proud to see the team play with poise and with grace and with a style that lets the talent shine through.

NCAA Basketball

It starts tonight for for me with Georgetown playing at Verizon Center to kick off its season.

I am very proud of my alma mater and am hopeful the men’s basketball team has been reconstructed and will blossom sometime this year. We have lost many players to the NBA of late and now we have the gift of promise and hope. We are led by a very well-known freshman named Greg Monroe, who many think will take his place alongside the other great men in Georgetown basketball heritage. Hoya Saxa.
