Fun to welcome him back! Fun to see him mentoring young goal tenders.
Fun to witness his presence which is commanding!
It feels like home. It feels right and good.
Go Caps! Read this one if you are so inclined. Ted

You will see some. It is the nature of the league, the team and the business.
We will always recraft the team to try to improve and to become a better team come playoff time.
I endorse our trade at the draft. I thought we were smart at this time to make this move as we have plenty of young prospects and young players fighting to make the team.
I also am very happy to have Olie back in the fold. His experience and competition level will help us a lot I believe.
We now move on to free agency. We want to keep some players. We want to sign some players. Wish us well in all of our pursuits.
And then don’t be surprised if you see some trades. It takes two to tango. We want to change and improve. We are getting ready for a new season which is fast approaching.
Go Caps! Thank you.
I am so pleased to welcome back Dave Prior as our chief goaltending coach. He is a real talent and very experienced in helping young goaltenders to develop. I would also like to thank Arturs Irbe for his remarkable stint as a goaltending coach for us as well these last two seasons.
I am so very excited to welcome into the coaching ranks Olie Kolzig. Olie is an all-time great Washington Capital. He is a man of high integrity, skill and experience. He took us to the playoffs on so many occasions; helped us to get to the Stanley Cup Finals; won a Vezina Trophy; and will help inject very high levels of competition into our goaltenders and our team in general!
Olie is back. We are happy and thrilled and he and Dave will team to be a great tandem of coaches for our young goaltenders. This is a smart move by our team and it will be great to see both Dave and Olie at Kettler Capitals Iceplex for Development Camp in July.
Honest. Smart. Class. Our heritage.
It was so great to see him at the Caps Convention yesterday.
Watch this video and celebrate his return. I am very happy that Olie is back in town for a nice visit.
Class.
All class.
Come see him on Saturday at the Capitals Convention.
Listen to his interview.
Olie - you aren’t forgotten.
We miss you and can’t wait to see you! Go Caps!
Fans are voting for the best local players for the last decade on Washingtonpost.com. It is wonderful to see that Ovechkin, Kolzig and Bondra are ranked in the Top 6 with Alex leading all local athletes as the athlete of the decade in Washington, DC. If you have a chance, please review the list and let your voice be heard.
Here is the link to vote.
In an ironic twist, I voted for Ovechkin as best athlete and Jagr as biggest bust for a local athlete. Here is that list to vote on as well.
So what does that say about me?
I am so confused…
This is funny and well done. ”10 reasons” is a great blog post. I forgot how great that commercial was with Olie. He was a great actor and did it in one take.
He will be missed. Olie Kolzig was the most competitive person I know. He cared deeply about the team; his community; and his family. He was and is a class act and he is one of my favorite athletes of all time.
He was the greatest goaltender to date in our franchise’s history; a winner of a Vezina Trophy; and he took us to our lone Stanley Cup Final.
I respect Olie and consider him a friend.
Sad to say. Hope he gets on the mend soon. See article here.
I am glad last night is over and happy we got the win and the two points.
I have received several emails on a couple of subjects so I will answer them here in a public fashion.
Question #1: Why did we do a video tribute to Kolzig?
Answer: He was probably the most beloved player in our franchise history and he was a fan icon. We felt he deserved this one of a kind tribute. And we have and will continue to take the high road in all matters.
Question #2: Why didn’t the tribute happen before the game?
Answer: We don’t program Tampa’s locker room and with Olie playing against us, it would be bad form to bring an opposing player out before the game. Tampa and Olie wouldn’t allow it anyway.
Question #3: Why did we run the tribute video when we did?
Answer: We program game presentations 24 hours ahead of time. We chose to show the tribute video at the first official timeout – 14 minutes in - regardless of the score.
As I stated, we paid homage to Olie and we got a win.
End of story. Time to move on now on this subject. We will NOT do anything else regarding Olie while he plays for another team. We play Tampa five more times this season. We must focus on our present and future and we need to amass as many points as possible within our division.
Thanks for all of your emails. No more comments from me regarding a player on another team. I hope you all understand. Go Caps!
