President Obama Statement on Mr. Pollin

The White House just released the following statement. Truly an amazing testament to the legacy of Mr. Pollin.
President Barack Obama

Statement on the Death of Abe Pollin

November 25, 2009

Michelle and I were deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Abe Pollin – a giant in the world of professional sports and someone I was proud to call a friend. Abe was a man who knew that being an owner wasn’t just about winning championships, although his teams had plenty of success. It was about helping young athletes become good people as well as good players. And it was about being part of a community. Abe believed in Washington, D.C. when many others didn’t – putting his own fortune on the line to help revitalize the city he loved. He was committed to the teams he guided, generous to those who needed it most, and as loyal to the people of D.C. as they were to him.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Irene, his sons Robert and James, and the entire Pollin family.

It is Good to See that the President…

…is hanging out with Steve Ballmer and Bill Gates and Michael Moore. Wow. Michael Moore has a lot of business to do at the White House, doesn’t he? See the logs within. Hidden camera, Mike?

George Clooney was there, Brad Pitt too. Michael Jordan - Denzel Washington - Al Franken – Oprah – Reverend Wright. Check out the list. Not sure what it all means but it is an interesting guest list to date.

Does This Strategy Ever Work?

Can you ever take on the media and blame them for your troubles?

I don’t think so.

Just look. Fox News ratings are way up. The President’s approval ratings are way down. Is it any wonder then that Fox News is hyping their disagreements with the White House? ”Oh woe is me. Watch what we do that has the White House so afraid of us.”

By talking about the media or a specific outlet, it only increases their value. And it diminishes you.

Sports teams that blame the media for their troubles are no different. There have been times in my past that I wanted to blame the media for over hyping some issues or for using fake quotes or making up stuff. I always cringe when I read ”According to a source close to the team” or “According to a source who didn’t want to be identified because he may do business with the team.” What does any of that mean? One time we found that the person who was being quoted was the brother of a player that wasn’t happy with the team and wanted to be traded. Another time it was an out of work scout for a team that wanted to interview with us.

Boyd Tinsley Rocks Me While Obama Rocks the Red

I met Boyd Tinsley last night at a political rally. We talked for fifteen minutes until I realized he was the violinist in the Dave Mathews Band. What a great guy and so very articulate. He is in town to play with the Dave Matthews Band at Nissan Pavilion this weekend. Click here for info on Boyd Tinsley.

He, too, is a filmmaker and loves sports. He is also a very good tennis player. We talked for 45 minutes until our President arrived then we had to be serious and pay attention. Boyd is good friends with VA Governor Tim Kaine and Tim is going to the concert this weekend as Boyd’s guest. How cool is that?

Honeymoon is About Over

Being POTUS is a very tough job. You have to have really thick skin. Check out this poster of our President and the related article. Click here. What do you think of this debate?

I will be at an event in Virginia with our Democratic candidate for Governor and our President on Thursday. I will thank POTUS for keeping the faith and for working hard on our behalf and I will also invite him again to a Washington Mystics game and a Washington Capitals game when our new season starts.

Is Ovie More Popular than Obama?

In Russia, he is. :-)  Thanks to our President who mentioned Alex Ovechkin during his speech in Russia yesterday.

Change has come and I now know our President will accept an offer from us and come on out and Rock the Red at a game this next season. That will be a lot of fun for all. Go Caps! And thank you Mr. President. Click here to read all about it.

Mr. President – Our Home is Your Home

I guess NBC yesterday invited President Obama to Tuesday’s Capitals Game 7 against the New York Rangers.

Our President always has a standing invitation to attend any game he so desires.

See this Washington Times article on the matter. Click here. If anyone is listening at the White House in the scheduling office, come on out and enjoy NHL hockey and see Washington DC at its best Rocking the Red. Thank you Mr. President and Go Caps!
