Take the Point–Be Somewhat Grateful
Friday, March 19th, 2010We lost in OT in Carolina last night. The final score 4 to 3, it was a fun game. A game where Joe Corvo contributed in a big way to our team and where Eric Fehr scored a goal with 9 seconds left to tie the game and get us a standings point. This is Eric’s first 20 goal season. We are all happy for him as he has battled back from lots of injuries. He will be a big time goal scorer in the NHL for a long time. We now have seven 20 goal scorers in our lineup.
The team clearly struggles for whatever reason with 4 on 4 so our coaching staff has work to do.
Carolina plays tough. We have a true divisional rivalry with them. They are a much better team than their record suggests this year. I have much respect for them. They battle and play hard every single game.
By gaining a point in the standings we have a 15 point lead on Pittsburgh in the standings for the East and an 8 point lead for the best record in the NHL over Chicago although, Chicago has played a few less games that we have. There are 11 games left to play for us, 22 standings point in total to be gained.
Alex Ovechkin rejoins the line up on Saturday in Tampa (” this too shall pass”). We play Saturday night then come back to DC, take a day off and have a few days of real good practice time to work on systems and line ups. Then we play the Penguins at home on Wednesday night. Go Caps.
Georgetown Stunned
Friday, March 19th, 2010I think I speak for all Georgetown fans when I say we are quite disappointed in the outcome of last night’s game but proud of the team and the program.
Georgetown played the toughest schedule in the NCAA this year. We were battle hardened. We had beaten great teams but we lost in the finals of the Big East tournament at the buzzer. We had big dreams for this tournament.
But alas…Cinderella lives, and Ohio University played a spectacular game with fire and intensity. They hit all of their big shots, protected the ball and hit their foul shots. Congratulations to them. We seemed out of synch and tentative all night.
Georgetown now has to regroup. The team has no graduating seniors so we are all hopeful that the team comes back in tact to play next season. If it does it will have a massive upside.
While a disappointing and painful end to a season, it was a great season of progress and development. The team will gain some perspective this off season and hopefully come back next season with a chip on its shoulder and ready to make us even prouder of the school. Hoya Saxa.

I Feel So Sad
Thursday, March 18th, 2010I have a friend His name is Victor Thay. He is a fund manager at Fidelity in Boston.
He grew up in Canada and he loved hockey. We always talked about the Capitals and Bruins and Alex Ovechkin.
He was interested in investing in Revolution Money. We had several long meetings together. We had several dinners. Then we became friends. He passed on the investment but was very helpful to me none the less. He was just a great guy.
I lost track of him over the last 6 months or so. When I looked at the standings today and saw if the season ended we would play Boston in the playoffs, I dashed him off a note via email. I wanted to trash talk with him and also to invite him to a game with me.
I sent the email; the email bounced right back to me.
I though “hmmm…maybe he left Fidelity?”. So, I Googled his name and this is what came up. My friend Victor Thay passed away. He died at the age of 35 years old. I am stunned. I feel so sad. I didn’t know of his passing and I don’t even know how he died.
Life is short. Play hard. RIP my friend.
