Social Media- We Get It

Thanks, to the Washington Post for this article on social media and new media marketing at the Washington Capitals.

The more bloggers we have following us, the more successful we have become.

The more interactive we become, the crisper our messaging and our rollout of new services.

The more transparency we provide, the more people “get it” and believe in us.

Even when the answers aren’t the ones people are looking for, answering every email is the right thing to do.

Social media is good business. It makes sense to follow our customers who more and more live their life on the net.

TV’s and computers are merging and the definition of networks will change. We need to in the middle of this transformation. We are honored to be considered pioneers and leaders in this field.

Not Much to Say

Dick Patrick has a great perspective on things. He is our President. He has seen a lot. He is having fun. He is happy but he isn’t satisfied. See his words of wisdom here.

I am disappointed that my begging on my blog for 24 hours of happiness and no negative emails didn’t work. I apologize for us NOT being undefeated and NOT winning the Cup in January. I also can’t predict the weather. I can’t move the games or postpone the games this weekend out of fear. I have very little fear.

I am happy that our players and their dads are all together in NYC. That time together will create sweet memories.

This is one of the best times of our lives. Embrace it. A win streak like this comes around very rarely.

We play a newly constructed Rangers team tonight in MSG. We then play Atlanta at home on Friday and then here come the Penguins on Sunday afternoon. We are too busy and too focused on each game to say much more right now.

Bad News for the Washington Post

Compared to the newspaper industry, the NHL looks like Google now.  :-) Our sales, revenues, ratings, renewals, merchandise sales, sponsorship sales and franchise values are all up. Some areas of growth are in double digits year over year. We expect growth to continue for the foreseeable future.

The newspaper industry continues to struggle with no end in sight. If you can believe it by these numbers, the Washington Post is actually the best of class, best management and best positioned to grow in other areas of media and software. We are blessed to have a great franchise like the Post in this community. They have done a great job in diversifying but the systemic issues facing the news print industry is becoming terrifying and one has to start to wonder how this movie will end?
