Size matters in the NBA.
Length. Athleticism. Toughness. Depth of rotation.
We are building a team that is very long and very big. Throughout the lineup.
We can start now one of the biggest teams in the NBA. And one of the youngest– we want the core player group to mature together.
We can bring big people off the bench as well.
And our young players are growing as well; I think both John Wall and Jordan Crawford have grown an inch since their rookie campaigns. Singleton is long; Turiaf is big; we have a lot of options now in terms of size.
I think Jan Vesely is about 7 .0 feet tall now as well. And he will play small forward off the bench. We have a 6 ’10″ player ( Rashard Lewis) and a 7’0” player in the small forward position at times.
Our center is an accomplished athlete and a very nice young man; JaVale McGee. He works hard on his game. Hard work is a key to improvement. I also find him to be erudite and well-read and highly relevant. I like him a lot!
He is maturing and he works hard on his game. It takes a long time for Centers to develop – Javale is right on schedule; I am confident in him; I respect him; and I am hopeful that he and our other young players work hard to bond and to understand that we are building a team chemistry around young players that we draft – and develop. These years of development are key to our franchise. This is an important year – a shortened 66 game season; lots of back to back games – young legs could be very helpful this season. Emerging leaders will be very important to our team as well.
I believe in continuity and in building through the draft. It is the only area of team building that you can control in the NBA.
I think we have a developing major presence in the middle; we have an emerging world class and generationally great point guard in John Wall; we are big; we are finally almost healthy throughout our lineup.
We are excited about the coming season; we play our first pre-season game on Friday – we have a Fanfest on Saturday with Wale and then we tip off on December 26th. Come on out – we are almost all sold out of our VIP tickets downstairs; order your tickets today. Thank you.
