A best of 3 series now

Thank you Caps fans for helping the team power though a great 2 to 1 win last evening

It was a great game – a game so good it actually lasted 60 minutes and 5 seconds long; see this note here on the issue with the clock at the end of the game.

Our goal tending was really superb last night – stating the obvious.

We scored on a power play, and we win the game. In the playoffs – special teams really are a key differential; Alex Semin’s shot and his on ice awareness using a Bruin’s D man as a screen was very special. That was the game winner

The series is knotted at 2 to 2. Each and every game is tight and has had a one goal differential. It ain’t easy for either side – so as I have noted before – “no one knows nothing”.

It is now down to a best of three series – aren’t the NHL playoffs great to watch as a fan?

We move forward to Saturday and Sunday – back to back games.

We will see you all – back at home at Verizon Center – on Sunday – Go Caps! The energy you provide our team is beyond compare. Thank you again!

Just play the game

Like it is a regular season game at home. We are missing a player; we have depth and we can modify our line up accordingly – someone will step up and we can win this game.

We can’t get caught up in all of the drama and noise associated with what happened in the past few days.

All of the focus and attention should be on the game at hand; tonight in front of our great fan base. We need to play with focus – and vigor and desperation and discipline.

Thank you to our fans for making the Verizon Center a hostile and loud environment; we need you all as our extra lift in energy tonight!

Go Caps – see you when the puck drops.

More adversity to over come

“If it doesn’t kill you it will make you stronger.”

We will play game 4 of the series without our number 1 center – Nicklas Backstrom

There is no need to comment or complain right now in a public forum – we made our case in the hearing; it didn’t register on NHL officials. Complaining may make us feel better but it won’t help us in our preparation for Thursday’s game – it is all about focus and attention to detail for us in this coming match up now. We have beaten the Bruins without Backstrom in the lineup this season, We need to take positive thoughts into this next game.

We can’t let the officials play a role in our game planning – we need to remain disciplined and remember that the defending Stanley Cup champs will always get the benefit of the doubt; we need to rise above the noise and focus on signal; play tight defense – capitalize on Boston’s mistakes – score when we get a power play; continue to rely on strong play in net. Don’t retaliate to plays after the whistle.

It is the playoffs; these things always happen; focus and attention to detail is what matters; we can’t be distracted. Keep the faith; Go Caps!

Composure

In the playoffs – composure truly matters as every mistake or official’s call or non-call truly is magnified in importance. We lost a bit of our composure last night - and we simply need to catch our breath – settle down – heal up – and prepare for Thursday night’s home game. We beat Boston in their arena – they have beaten us in our arena. All of our focus needs to be on the next game – NOT looking back at what could have been in last night’s game. We need to even up the series come Thursday night and turn this into a best of 3 game series.

We lost last night in another one goal game - 4 to 3. I thought we went toe to toe with Boston; it is a very physical series, and they scored twice on 4 on 4 configurations and won on a deflected shot with less than 2 minutes left in the game. It was good to see us finally score on a power play. Both Ovechkin scored and Chara scored in the marquee matchup; you can’t get more competitive than what those two great players are undertaking against one another in every game.

We seemed to lose some focus on defense and there was too much open ice and time and space for skilled players on both sides last night for a tense playoff game.

Thank you to our fans last night – the arena was ablaze in red and I appreciate your support and your passion and how much you care.

Onward to game 4. See you all Thursday night. Here is a bunch of pixels for consumption. Go Caps!

Caps playoff practice reminder

As you may recall from prior years, we temporarily secure an area for our players to park at Kettler Capitals Iceplex during the playoffs, and we ask that you respect these boundaries. The fan turnout at Kettler during prior postseasons has been fantastic. Thank you for being such great fans and supporting our team. Let’s Rock the Red and Let’s Go Caps!
