DC Sports Team Owners Root for One Another

We do. We really do.

That was a fun event.

I enjoyed it very much.

A rising tide will raise all boats. We are in a small club. We are all part of this community.

Click here to read about it. Thank you for attending today and thank you for watching it on the web.

Go Skins! Go Nats! Go DC United!

Not Really

I disagree with Tracee.

I really do.

It is the off season — summer time in DC. We are in need of repositioning our team to be future-focused; we just closed on our new ownership agreement two weeks ago. What better way to re-launch the new Wizard’s brand and culture than celebrate with our season ticket holders and fans that we won the lottery and have the first round pick on board? The first round pick in the draft. And what better way to generate some off-season interest and sell some tickets — which we really need to do to get our building loud and proud for Wizard’s games next season?

We will show summer league games on Comcast — the Nats showed minor league games on MASN. Same thing. :-) .

And in basketball, a point guard has the ball in his hands a lot, and plays a lot of minutes — a pitcher throws every five days; sometimes 4 games go by between appearances.

And the NBA is built around star players. Apples and oranges here in a way.

From here on out, it will be about hoops NOT hoopla and hype. John Wall will be a splendid player but he is a point guard, a player who runs the team — like a coach on the floor — who makes players around him better. It is all part of the “secret” of winning in the NBA. “we” instead of “I” — best way to get to a winning culture in the NBA — start with a great point guard. That is why they are “made in heaven.”

We know how to shelter and create a positive culture around young players — see Washington Capitals and Alex Ovechkin. Did you see how Alex already is helping us out via his work in this year’s draft?

I know you are just generating pixels, but we didn’t have a press conference in our main court — we didn’t shoot off fire works did we? Click here.

This article is off base. I won’t let the media generate controversy when there isn’t any to talk about.

Nationals Go Front and Center

You have to be bad before you can be good.

You have to build around the draft.

Your best and highest paid players have to be your best people and most coachable and respectful players.

The Nationals are ready to be front and center.

They picked phenom Bryce Harper last night with the first pick in the draft. He has been called the “Lebron James of baseball.”

Tonight Stephen Strasburg starts his MLB career at Nationals Stadium. The buzz is overwhelming but so great and positive.

Good things happen to those who wait.

I am very happy for the Lerner family. They have been patient and they have executed their plan. They deserve all of the good things that are about to happen to the Nationals.

As a season ticket holder and a friend of the family I am psyched. Go Nats Go!!!

Goose Bumps

Now tell me you aren’t excited as a sports fan about the potential of Stephen Strasburg? Read this article.

I am so very happy for the Washington Nationals. They are 4 games over 500 and 1.5 games out of first place. And Strasburg hasn’t pitched an inning yet in the major leagues for them.

His eventual arrival will be a world class premiere because the team is young, hungry, and well coached executing on a patient and smart plan.

It has weathered the random media criticisms with class. It is built to last and will only get better and better.

The Nationals will provide us all with great summer entertainment. I am a lucky season ticket holder. I can’t wait to see this kid pitch, too.

What a Day of Sports

My head is spinning.

I can’t remember a day that was so filled with back to back sports action and debate and drama and action. And it was a Monday!

Let us review.

The Redskins made a huge trade. A big star is coming to town. A Super Bowl is discussed on air on radio 980.

The Nationals opened up their season. Potus wore a White Sox cap. The Nats lost to the Phillies. Traffic was off the chart bad but it was a beautiful day and fun was had by all even with the loss.

Tiger Woods played Augusta and held a press conference. The media swooned, snarled and did their thing.

Washington Bullets star Gus Johnson was voted into the basketball Hall of Fame. He was as Mr. Pollin once said “Dr J. before there was a Dr J.”– This is a well deserved honor.

Duke won a national championship. They have a proud program. Butler almost shocked the world but Coach K. knows how to coach in the Final Four. It is always about Duke. Congrats to the Blue Devils.

And the Washington Capitals won in overtime over the Boston Bruins giving us 116 points and a plus 80 goal differential. The worst team in the NHL in terms of plus /minus goal differential has a minus 67.Now that is a huge spread, isn’t it? Wow.

What a day. We are so tired. And today we rest.

Oh wait…we play the Penguins tonight in Pittsburgh in a back to back game.

No rest for the weary.

Awesome News

Way to go Washington Nationals.

This signing is such great news. It gives the community hope and dreams for a better day. Pitching is how teams win in MLB and this young man looks to be a future historic player. I am so excited to see him pitch and am so happy for the Nationals and for the Lerner family. Play ball! Kudos all around. Click here to read this front page story in the Washington Post.
