We are covering the team as well. Here is a link to game notes from our own website as we travel with the Wizards. Check it out.

I Stand Corrected
Mike Prada from SB Nation pointed out that he updated his Wizards blog at 12:58 am. I apologize for missing this timestamp and feed.
In praise of professional media
So today I woke up early – 530 am, and looked to the scores of the Wizards vs. Trail Blazer game last night. As noted – I only could stay up til half time.
NBC local news had a running scroll with the score; that was a nice way to wake up and have a cup of coffee.
I then went online and read the Washington Post. It covered the game well as the writer was at the game.
I then went to several of my favorite Wizards blogs; and what did I see?
Previews of the game. A story about Portland and their plans.
One had an article about the Miami Heat game from Friday.
It appears no local Wizards blogger stayed up late and wrote about the game in real time? I am sure they will do a good job later today; but without NBC local and the Post – I wouldn’t have the data that I wanted and needed.
Thank goodness for professional media in this regard.
They made me happy; thank you.
First ever Wizards team to win 2 consecutive road games by 15 or more points?
NOW that is an odd fact and stat. Who knew?
I admire those who could stay up and watch the game; I am sad to say I only lasted til half time!
I was happy to read this article for our fans and for our players and staff.
More baby steps to respectability.
We have a long difficult journey ahead – but we are allowed to enjoy some moments along the way.
Back to back road wins. A complete team effort – with lots of points coming from lots of players.
Don’t get too high with the high or too low with the lows.
Late game tonight
Wizards vs. Trail Blazers.
A tough road trip continues – first Detroit – then on to Portland; and then to a back to back against the Clippers in LA.
Here is a story about the road win in Detroit.
I thought the team responded well and that some players ala Jan Vesely had their best game of the season in Detroit.
Baby steps on the path to improvement.
Road trip upon Wizards
A good win last night – in front of a small crowd – announced at 12,654 in Detroit.
Both teams are rebuilding; and it was good to see our young players such as John Wall and JaVale McGee play with such intensity as the game wore on.
We now go out West for a tough set of games.
Congratulations to Rashard Lewis – for a unique NBA record – he is in some select company – and we are happy he is back in the lineup. Click here. Thank you.
Pixels raining the other way
Another night – another game at Verizon Center.
See you all tonight as we play the NY Knicks.
Pixels raining the other way.

And it is even better for total season tickets sold
And we are ranked higher in terms of season tickets sold; here is an article as to our attendance for the Wizards. See our rankings compared to some other teams and markets. I am glad someone blogged about this set of facts.
This is why I believe this is a fantastic market and we are blessed to have such great fans.
My goal is to build a team that is as good as our fan base.
Thank you Wizards fans; and yes – the building was quite loud last night – focus on end of game – when Raptors were shooting foul shots – it was quite impressive and I am grateful.
Some notes on last night
Take a look at the standings; in the East – 8 out of the 15 teams have a 500 or under record; more than half the teams have lost more games than they have won. In the entire league – there are 14 of 30 teams with a 500 or less record. The NBA is hyper competitive right now – there are some really good teams; some teams in the middle of the pack and some teams at the bottom of the standings. It appears that teams with under 500 records may qualify for the playoffs this season.
We played a team above us in the standings last night – that had beaten us easily last Friday. I am happy we won for our fans; even though the game went to overtime. The game was played on a Monday night – and attendance was at the 14,600 mark; as I have noted – we sell 14 to 15 k tix to all games now – and when we play a traditional opponent or a glamour team – our attendance swells to sell out or near sell out capacity.
The crowd was very loud last night and I am most appreciative. Thank you. We also are working with the DC Metro police on the issue of scalping and the sale of counterfeit merchandize outside of Verizon Center; I walked around a bit last night and saw first-hand issues that we must continually address – although we need cooperation of the city authorities here. We are working this – stay tuned for more details.
We played with well more than half of our payroll sitting on the bench or in street clothes – with Lewis-Turiaf and Blatche out.
I was very happy to see the confidence in our coaching staff in the huddle during the OT 5 minute period. They were very calm and encouraging to our young players.
Thank You Wizards Season Ticket Holders
Thank you for the support.
And for the nice comments in this article; and for allowing us to grow our season ticket holder base to almost 8000 season ticket holders – up from 3900 when we bought the team. That places us in the top 20 teams in the NBA now in terms of season ticket holders. Thank you for renewing your season tickets at a better than average NBA rate – in excess of 80 percent last off season. And thank you for using your tickets – we monitor this usage digitally – fully 80 plus percent of the tickets are used game by game by season tickets holders; we count the turn style clicks. The Caps are at 88 percent as a comparison.
Thank you for your positive emails to me and for your support of our young players. And thank you for meeting with me personally – every single week of the season – in round tables – in one on one sessions; in meetings in the owner’s box; in chalk talks and formal Q and A sessions. I love being with you and learning and listening to you. We have fantastic fans and this is a great basketball market.
And I thank you for enjoying the game day experience – and for your belief in what we are doing here in Washington DC. Rebuilding a team is hard enough without the local pixel maker piling on; but this is an annual rite of passage – all teams go through it here via the Washington Post. Its genesis is from a blog post – that then goes to the newspaper itself. I have to laugh in that the blog post column mentioned within is usually sponsored by a ticket reseller that allows you to go find out what the actual average ticket price of a ticket is on the resale market; but why let facts get in the way of a sensational story, right? And the negative comments within are mostly from scalpers? Scalping is illegal in our city; so they are now quoting about to be criminals to prove a point in a story
. That is ironic, no? The scalpers don’t want their names to be used – that usually isn’t a good sign. I guess they didn’t want to be arrested! The Washington Post is harboring criminals now. Scalpers; think of the genesis of the name itself – it isn’t positive, is it? Click here.
And Luke Russert – want to hear something funny? He was my guest in the owner’s box dining room -which was quite crowded the night before he made these jocular comments to his friend at the radio station – so let no good deed go unpunished. But Luke is a fan; he is passionate – he sells his point of view- he is an audio blogger now – it is quite fashionable to pile on; but we can take it – and I know that Luke will always be a fan and will be positive once we build a winner. That is how it goes when you are rebuilding a team.
This Washington Post article was quite predictable. Picture and captions to; quite clichéd. See those three empty seats in the photo? They are sold and people were in attendance – they were probably just eating in our private club set aside for VIP’s at half time. Headline; “ticket prices fall”. Our ticket prices haven’t fallen; some resold ticket prices have fallen – while some others have risen. I have blogged about supply and demand quite often.
Be this as it may- I get that we are struggling as a team; as I have noted; it will be a difficult process; there is always great skepticism when you try to do something different – radical or when you hold beliefs that are counter to some popular opinion.
But – we shall carry on; we are 100 or so games into a rebuild with 9 players under rookie contract; we are seeing progress; we have strong attendance – we have great fans. We can take the heat. Thanks again Wizards fans.
I thank our fans for being so supportive; and I promise we will work with the city and the police to deal with the illegal scalping outside of our building in a more diligent way – the Washington Post can be thanked for this law of unintended consequence now around scalpers.
