Me and Big Ken Holden at the White House
My eBuddy, Big Ken Holden from Tampa, and I went to the White House yesterday to celebrate National Mentoring Month. We represented Best Buddies at the event.
We waited outside in the cold for 30 minutes with about 100 other mentors and mentees. We were ID checked outside. We then went to another checkpoint where we were IDed again. We then went to a third checkpoint where we were screened with metal detectors, etc. and ID checked again. Thanks “gate crashers” for making the security checks much tougher and longer than usual.
Then we walked into the White House where everyone was very open and friendly. Piano music was being played and members of the military were there to host and escort us.
Ken and I walked around. I took many photos of him in front of Presidential portraits and in several rooms. We then went to the event itself. Mrs. Obama and the POTUS both delivered wonderful speeches. Some photos were taken and then we were told we could mingle and meet other mentors and then we left.
We were in and out in 75 minutes. It was run very efficiently and very smoothly. It was a wonderful event and I am proud to have been invited. It was also wonderful to spend quality time with Ken who then took his Mom to the Wizards game and sat in my seats on the floor. All in all, it was a nice visit at the White House and a great day for Best Buddies.
Name Dropping – My Whereabouts
I am not gate crashing. I have an invite and will be at the White House today with the President and First Lady.
It is National Mentoring Day and my Best Buddy, Ken Holden, and I have been chosen to attend a session at the White House. We are truly honored. We are thrilled to generate interest around Best Buddies and eBuddies as well from this event. Click here for more details on Best Buddies.
I will blog more about the event after its conclusion.
I was invited. I am not crashing the party. I swear.
Game On!
A New White House Website
The new administration has its act together. The new site went live at noon and it is a really welcome change from the old Web 1.0 style website style of the Bush Administration. It has an open, clean feel and is easy to navigate. It is well done. Check it out.
Living in DC these past few days was like living in downtown Manhattan on New Year’s Eve. It has been festive; fun; inconvenient; crowded; dirty; and crazy. It was a once in a lifetime experience. My son said, ”Dad, DC is the greatest city in the world.” I always agree with my family when they say something simple and profound.
Now the City and Feds have to clean the place up; reopen the roads; tone down the security look and feel; and help us all go back to work and to getting on with our lives.
Change is here. Great! Now let us stop the talk and do the work.
