As noted we believe we had to get bigger, tougher and stronger down low to compete in the playoffs. We made a bunch of moves yesterday to fulfill that plan. I am very happy with the quick pivot in strategy and the new plan. Read all about what we have done here and here. And I expect more moves. Get ready for a new season — coming soon.

Mystics
I am not sure what the agenda was in writing this article as I didn’t understand the thesis within but I will say it again. We are committed to the Washington Mystics. And the WNBA.Sheila Johnson is the most passionate and engaged owner of a franchise I have seen in the WNBA. She loves the team; the players; and the fans. She is totally committed to the team’s success on the floor and at the gate.
We have invested as a partnership in every way imaginable.
We want to break the code and find a way for the team to trend toward profitability. We have a long, long way to go. Sheila is focused on the team’s performance on the floor and as a business enterprise.
Sheila is an advocate for the league and for the team in our partnership. I trust in her and her leadership for this franchise. I also care about the team and the league and the players. I go to games. I am involved in all matters related to the team as well.
As the article notes, one team in WNBA history has made money and that is a team that is owned and operated by a casino that plays in its own building so this Mystics team is an effort with a higher calling and a higher mission in mind. We want to do the right thing the right way and we want to have a franchise that is best in class in everything we do.
As noted, our expense structure remains high or highest in the WNBA. We will do our best to grow revenues and earn the support of our community. We are committed and Sheila is doing the right things for the franchise to remain viable and have a bright future.
Wish us well in that pursuit.
Mystics Name Combo Coach and GM
Congratulations to Trudi Lacey.
We know she is the right person to help us take the next step in our development as a franchise.
Sheila Johnson is excited about this new development so I am as well.
Here are some articles as an FYI.
A Wonderful Article on Female Ownership in WNBA
I am very pleased that we are mentioned in this article.
I still don’t understand why the media can’t get facts correct though as per my blog post of yesterday.
But it is wonderful that Sheila Johnson is profiled. She is our managing partner and an owner of the team alongside all of our other partners as well as me. I outlined all of this yesterday in my blog post regarding setting the record straight.
The Washington Mystics were originally sold to Lincoln Holdings by Abe Pollin as per our original operating agreement. Sheila joined our partnership. We then bought the Mystics and Sheila has always been a partner in our holding company, now called Monumental Sports and Entertainment. Sheila owns a part of the Mystics; the Wizards; the Capitals; Verizon Center; and the local Ticketmaster franchise. She is the only African American woman in history to own parts of three professional sports teams. A true trailblazer! She is certainly the partner that runs the Mystics franchise.
Those are the facts.
The tonality of this article is spot on. Sheila lives and breathes the team. She is our partner but she also is involved with all of the other enterprises within Monumental Sports and Entertainment. There are many other partners that also own a piece of the Mystics as well as being partners within Monumental Sports and Entertainment. We have an additional female owner, too, in all of the enterprises in Michelle Freeman. Just trying to set the record straight and give a shout out to Michelle Freeman, too.
