Yi Was Taking a Photo

Yi took lots and lots of photos. He was quite engaged in the game. He was touched by the fan’s reception of him. He asked a lot of questions about the game. He mingled with our partners and friends and family. He met Senator Mark Warner. He met the head of Comcast SportsNet. He had a great time. He spoke in beautifully constructed English full sentences. He is a very curious, smart and respectful individual. I was very impressed with him. You will be, too.

I Will Be There Tonight – Will You?

Pre-season Game 1 is tonight for the Washington Wizards.

There may be some special guests in the house. Tune in.

The game should be a fun one as our coach test drives different looks and line-ups and lets the players run and work on new sets.

Come on out and enjoy NBA basketball.

There is too much talk about noise. The game is where the signal occurs.

I don’t care if Gilbert Arenas has a beard down to his knees as long as he is healthy; happy; ”coachable”; and is a great teammate - which I believe he is – all is good in my book. I know he is one heck of a terrific player.

Yi had a great time at the Caps game last night, too. We are building a positive and fun culture. It was his first time at an NHL game. Thank you to the sold out crowd last night for welcoming Yi to Washington, DC. That was very nice of you. Go Caps! Go Wizards!

He is Only 22 Years Old

He is 7 feet tall. He is fast. He is talented. He is still developing.

He will toughen up through international play. He can shoot the ball.

This trade was a subtle one and an important one for us.

Yi will be in our rotation. Our fans will like his game.

I am happy we made this trade.

You will be, too.

Yi is also China’s “Mr. Basketball.” We are proud to have him our team. Hundreds and hundreds of millions of people in China will see the Wizards play now on a regular basis. That is a pretty cool by product of the trade as well but we traded for him for his skills and and his upside.

Read this one — I am encouraged.

It is what I believe too; different players excel in different  kinds of environments and  different types of cultures.

Yi will be comfortable here in DC; he is a big body — he can run the floor; and John Wall will make him a better player.

David Thorpe is a well known and highly regarded individual coach.
