Relevance in Death

Sad that when a celebrity passes on the career arc is accelerated.

All over the web – be it web searches on Yahoo, Bing and Google; audio streams on Pandora and Spinner; video streams via YouTube or movie widgets via SnagFilms; Amy Winehouse was all the rage again on the web this week.

Our film in the library “The Girl Done Good” on SnagFilms is getting lots of traffic, widget snagging and embedding is growing all over the web.

Whoever would have thought that passing on would be a good career move. Sad as that sounds.

Here is the film again; click and watch should you have a moment.

The Anti-YouTube?

I really enjoyed reading this article. We are blushing.

We do believe in the power of independent film and documentaries and in providing free long form content to consumers.

Watch some movies on SnagFilms this holiday season and share them with your friends and family. This kind of recognition from Internetnews.com is very powerful for our franchise and we appreciate it very much. Check out this holiday film widget with the best of for 2009 by clicking here.

Beyond the Multiplex

Here is Salon with an in-depth piece on next generation film distribution. Click here to read it.

It really touches all of the bases and mentions all of the players in the industry.

Digital distribution of films is really picking up steam. It is amazing to me how well we have positioned SnagFilms. It is mentioned within alongside YouTube, Netflix and Hulu and we are yet to celebrate our first anniversary.

When is Free Good?

Click here to read a great article about the importance of being free (kudos Chris Anderson) in the new media world and a counter claim being made by Malcolm Gladwell, best-selling author and former Washington Post employee.

In regards to YouTube, I agree. Giving away free video stuff costs money and it is tough to monetize. Can you ever trust this community-created video as a brand builder and advertiser? Is it curated? Is it frankly any good in terms of quality?

It’s Over

Here is a very funny YouTube video about the death of traditional media. It is funny, poignant and true.

As I said in a white paper in 1992 at Redgate Communications - ”Digitize or Die”.
